A Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth demo featuring Sephiroth and Cloud is set to arrive on the PlayStation store today, with Sony posting its official announcement early.

Sony has accidentally let the Cait Sith out of the bag earlier than intended by posting about a Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth demo being available – something which was undoubtedly intended to be an announcement during tonight's Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth State of Play. While it's not exactly a shock a demo was coming – considering many Square Enix titles including Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 16 also did this – PlayStation also detailed what the demo includes.

The trailer was posted on the PlayStation Store (via @Wario64 on Twitter) with a description that reads "allowing you to step into the shoes of either Cloud or Sephiroth during the Nibelheim episode. Uncover the opening chapter of the game's story and explore the world map". This description doesn't confirm if you'll be able to carry over progress to the full game – which is something that Final Fantasy 16 and Dragon Quest 11's demos featured but wasn't the case for Final Fantasy 7 Remake. The @PlayStationSize Twitter page posted evidence that could point to progression transferring to the full release on February 29, 2024 however, I guess we'll find out during tonight's Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth PlayStation State of Play

Improvise, Adapt, Rebirth

Actually surprising players is a near-impossible feat in this day and age considering the amount of leaks and rumours on a day-to-day basis, but it's still a shame for this to leak ahead of tonight's presentation. Even if a demo was a fairly obvious prediction, hopefully, Square Enix has something else up its sleeve to excite players during tonight's State of Play.

That being said, I don't know if I'm ready for a Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth demo yet, the amount of massive RPGs coming out during the first few months of 2024 is staggering, with most people probably still making their way through Persona 3 Reload or Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth right now. That being said, those of you desperately waiting to get your hands on the follow-up to the excellent Final Fantasy 7 Remake are in luck, because you only need to wait until later tonight.
