Piers Morgan has branded it "untenable" for the palace to not share what type of cancer King Charles has.

Buckingham Palace issued a rare statement on Monday, February 5, disclosing the news that the king had been diagnosed with the disease. A spokesperson for the monarch stated that His Majesty chose to share the news in a bid to dispel any speculation as he urgently undergoes treatment.

However, Piers has said it is "untenable" for royal aides to not disclose what type of cancer the 75-year-old sovereign is suffering from. The palace said that the King was urgently undergoing treatment but remained positive about his condition.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, Piers said: "Increasingly untenable for Buckingham Palace not to say what cancer King Charles III has got. Speculation is running riot all over the world. If, as I'm sure he does, Charles wants to help others, far better to be specific about his condition?"

But in a bid to axe speculation, one follower responded: "But it's also possible - even likely - that they don't know the full details yet. These tests take time. They've been very open thus far. I imagine more to come when they're ready and know things for certain." Piers didn't take this lying down though as he replied: "He's already having treatment for it... They know."

In an exceptionally rare statement about the monarch's health, Buckingham Palace said: "During The King's recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer. His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties.

"Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual. The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.

"His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer." While he is out of action on the public front, His Majesty will continue to be supported by Queen Camilla, Prince William, Prince Edward, Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh and The Princess Royal.
