Alison Hammond won over the British public on Big Brother two decades ago and has achieved incredible success on and off camera ever since.

The beloved TV presenter is one of the stars of ITV's This Morning, hosts Channel 4's Great British Bake Off and has been announced as Paul O'Grady's replacement on For The Love Of Dogs.

Of her new role, Alison said last week: "I am very aware that I can never replace the iconic Paul in this wonderful series, but if I can continue to shine a light on the brilliant work done at Battersea and help to tell the stories of those beautiful dogs, then it will be an absolute privilege to give it my all."

As the 49-year-old star celebrates her birthday today, we take a look at Alison's life off-screen since she first found fame - from her romantic relationships and Birmingham home to her incredible weight-loss journey.

Net worth and earnings

Alison is thought to be worth between £1million and £4million thanks to an impressive number of regular presenting gigs, numerous stints on reality TV and various ads and brand partnerships. It was previously estimated Alison earned around £600,000 co-hosting the daytime show every Friday with Dermot O'Leary.

From I'm A Celebrity in 2010 to Strictly Come Dancing in 2014 and The Great British Bake Off in 2023, Alison has made a name for herself on a number of reality shows. She has also fronted brands such as In The Style, Crown Bingo and DFS Furnishings.

Incredible weight loss

From having gastric band surgery to appearing on Celebrity Fit Club and Sugar-Free Farm, Alison has been on a weight loss journey over the years and tried countless diets and exercise regimes in a bid to lose weight. She now has a personal trainer to keep her motivation in full swing and has been working hard in the gym lifting weights.

When it comes to eating healthily, Alison enjoys dishes of chicken and spinach or beef mince and cauliflower rice, while she snacks on bananas or bowls of yoghurt and berries. But she also allows herself a few cheat days, and will have the occasional slice of chocolate cake to balance it all out.

On This Morning in 2022, she broke down in tears talking about her own weight struggles. She said: "Obviously I've had – I'm getting upset – I've had obesity my whole life. And what it is, is your regulation system is out of whack. So obviously, you can't control wanting to eat all the time.

"And I think what a lot of people don't realise, is obesity is a disease. You can't help wanting to eat all the time." The TV star added: "I think people look down at people just because they're so big and they can't actually help it if they've got a disease. When you're in it, it's difficult. You want to eat and you want all the bad things and you know you don't look right. Sorry, it touched me."

Relationships

Alison was previously married to Manchester cab driver Noureddine Boufaied. Together, they had son Aiden, who was born on his mum's 30th birthday and turned 18 last year. Sadly, her union with Noureddine ended in divorce, but in 2014 she fell in love with single dad and security guard Jamie Savage, who she met online.

They quickly got engaged but that also wasn't to be and it was with a heavy heart that Alison announced their split three years later, admitting that the agony of their heartbreak had put her off finding love again. She was then briefly involved with audio technician Ben Kusi, who she met on Celebs Go Dating earlier in 2020.

In 2022, Alison announced that she'd been dating a 'mystery man' for 18 months and nobody knew. She told The Sun: "He absolutely worships me and massages my feet every single day. What more do you want?!" The secret was later outed to be 'handsome' gardener Ben Hawkins, and the pair got on "like a house on fire".

But in March 2023, Alison announced on This Morning that she was single. A source told Closer magazine: "Alison is very good at putting on a brave face, but she really has been heartbroken by this agonising break-up." They said she wanted to "hide under the covers" at times but was motivated by work.

It was also claimed by the source that Holly became her 'agony aunt'. They said: "She's been helping to lift Alison's spirits by not only being there for her to talk to and a shoulder to lean on, but by instilling her with confidence and helping her focus on how many positive things she has in her life."

Unusual home life

Alison lives in an ultra-modern home in Birmingham, that she recently renovated, with her son Aiden along with her best friend Jason and his pet dog Bobby. "My family life is so like, if you look at it from the outside you'll be like 'how does that all work?'", she previously said.

"Jason's there helping me with Aiden, Aiden is there helping Jason, the dog, helping me. It is just such a good little unit and I absolutely love my home life situation I cook for my boys and home life I am winning!"

Alison loves Birmingham and has previously said that she would never leave the city. "I like doing dead ordinary things when I'm away from work – I just dropped my son off at the Snowdome and that's more important and more fun than all the partying under the sun," she once told Birmingham Living.

"This is who I am. I am a private person in real life but very outward going when I have an audience. I love Birmingham. I love everything about it. I would never leave it."

However last year it was reported that the ITV presenter had put her £700k four-bedroom and three-bathroom property in the West Midlands on the market as she anticipated spending more time in London for work.
