A British man has died after falling from a balcony on the fourth floor of a hotel in Thailand, it has been confirmed.

The 69-year-old man plunged from his room and landed in a narrow alley next to the hotel building in Pattaya at around 2am Sunday. Police and medics arrived at the scene and found the shirtless man conscious but he was unable to speak to them.

He was rushed to the Bang Lamung Hospital but he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. A local woman Waew who lives opposite said she heard the Brit calling for help and notified the police when she found him lying on his back groaning in pain.

She said: "I was resting in my room when I heard someone crying outside. I grabbed my flashlight and checked near the hotel, where I found the injured man lying on the ground."

Police Lieutenant Anirut Jehroh of the Pattaya City Police Station said: 'We have inspected the British man's room and found no traces of assault. We do not know yet if he fell on purpose or by accident. We do not believe anybody else was involved. A post-mortem examination will show us if he was drunk at the time."
