A toddler has been rescued from a deep well after falling in while playing and remaining trapped for 18 hours.

The 18-month-old girl, who had not been named, tumbled down the 1ft-wide hole and plunged 43ft down.

Her parents, named only as Mr Necho and Ms Atae, both work at the yuca plantation in the Phop Phra district in Tak Province, Thailand, where it happened.

The migrant workers from Myanmar began to panic when they couldn’t find her.

Workers searched the area and realised the toddler had fallen down the freshly dug well.

Police arrived at the scene to find the workers gathered by the hole and when first responders called down, they could hear the faint sound of a child crying back.

They attached a camera to a length of rope and sent it down the well to confirm that the girl was trapped at the bottom.

Rescuers then lowered an oxygen tube along with a PVC pipe to make sure the sides did not collapse while using a backhoe to dig away some soil around the girl.

The operation continued through the night with an ambulance waiting nearby.

She was pulled out at 10.45am on February 6 after spending the night trapped.

District chief Sanya Phetset and other local officials were present at the plantation to anxiously observe the operation.

She was handed over to her elated parents in front of cheering onlookers.

The youngster was described as being shocked and upset by her overnight ordeal.

She was transferred to Phop Phra Hospital for medical checks.
