Caregiver 'who killed 4-year-old girl' had sexual fling with jailer, deputy says
A woman who is accused of killing a four-year-old girl she was meant to be caring for was engaged in a sexual relationship with her jailer, it is claimed.
Alysia Adams, 31, is accused of first-degree murder and child neglect in the death of Athena Brownfield. The four-year-old's body was found dumped on rural ground after a mailman found Athena's then-5-year-old sister roaming outside in December 2023.
According to prosecutors, Alysia and her husband Ivon Adams, 37, killed Athena after being left to look after her by the child's mother Jasmin Brownfield in 2021.

The Caddo County Sheriff's Office suspect the inappropriate relationship occurred between late November and early December. The jailer in question was promptly fired once investigators were made aware of the allegations. Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation officials said it won't release further details while the investigation is ongoing.
Woman who abused baby so badly he needed legs amputating freed from jail“The Caddo County Sheriff’s Office requested the OSBI to investigate possible misconduct conducted at the Caddo County Jail,” a spokesperson for the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said Sunday. “This is still an ongoing investigation at this time. We are not confirming any names involved.”
On January 10, Athena Brownfield was reported missing after a postal worker found her five-year-old sister by herself outside the Cyril, Oklahoma, house the girls shared with Ivon and Alysia, some 70 miles (113 km) southwest of Oklahoma City. After finding a child's remains at first, authorities located Athena.
Alysia reportedly told investigators that Ivon had beaten the child around midnight on Christmas and "held her up by her arms," according to an affidavit for Ivon's arrest.
Alysia stated that Athena "was not moving and her eyes were barely open," as stated by OSBI Lt. Brenna Alvarez. Ivon "then laid her on the ground and punched her at least three more times in the chest" and the kid "never moved after that." An autopsy of the girl's body told a much different story.
Instead, the county medical examiner's office determined that Athena had not suffered any broken bones and that "no fatal trauma found" on her corpse.
The young girl's cause of death was "acute pneumonia complicating malnutrition," and her mode of death was a homicide. Alysia is accused of "putting Athena Brownfield in a closet and depriving the child of proper nutrition," according to the amended accusations.
Prosecutors also charged Alysia Adams with one count of obstructing an officer in addition to murder because of the misleading information when she fed to investigators. In addition, she is charged with one count of child maltreatment due to the way she handled Athena's older sister.
An affidavit states that Jasmin disclosed to Alysia and Ivon her mental health problems and her belief that she was unable to provide for her children. Jasmin, nonetheless, neglected to stay in touch with the Adams and didn't inquire about the well-being or security of her kids. Jasmin did not give the Adams family any financial assistance for the upbringing of her children. This resulted in her arrest in May.
Investigators spoke with Jasmin on January 12, 2023, and she acknowledged that she had given her kids to Alysia and Ivon for care a year and a half before Athena vanished. Jasmin admitted to the investigators that she had signed a handwritten document authorizing the Adams family to care for the girls, but nothing that was formalized by the legal system.
