Kate Garraway's husband Derek Draper was laid to rest today with famous faces from the worlds of politics and entertainment paying their respects at his funeral.
Good Morning Britain presenter Kate, who announced Derek's death last month in a heartbreaking statement, and her two children Darcey and William said their own personal goodbyes to their beloved husband and father who died at the age of 56 in January, after a gruelling four year battle with the effects of Covid.
Kate arrived at the same church north London church where she married Derek nearly two decades ago, holding hands with their children Darcey and William. The TV star, who tied the knot with Draper in September 2005, wore a long black coat, a pearl necklace and a silver watch that belonged to Derek as she entered the Church of St Mary The Virgin in Primrose Hill on Friday.
Her daughter Darcey, 17, bravely acted as pallbearer and was seen carrying her father's coffin into the service, where a packed church of mourners had gathered. The ceremony was filled with personal gestures that included Sir Elton John performing an emotional rendition of his track Skyline Pigeon.
Sir Elton, who Kate described as a 'huge friend' to her during Derek's health decline, also arrived to show his support to the family. Elton movingly dedicated Don't Let The Sun Go Down on Me to the couple at one of his farewell concert's during a rare night out for them last year, leaving Kate in tears.

Kate's co-stars Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard were among the first to arrive at the church, which Kate also invited members of the press to attend. Richard Madeley and Charlotte Hawkins were also seen at the church in London's Primrose Hill, alongside former ITV stars Piers Morgan and ex GM:TV host Fiona Phillips, who were friends of both Kate and Derek.
Former Prime Minister Tony Blair and his wife Cherie were also invited to Friday's service, after becoming close with Derek following his years as a political lobbyist.
Tragic Derek's funeral comes almost one month after the dad-of-two died holding Kate's hand after an agonising four-year battle to recover from Covid-19. Speaking on Instagram on the day of Derek's passing, Kate wrote: âRest gently and peacefully now Derek, my love, I was so lucky to have you in my life."
A source close to Kate claimed the planning of the former political lobbyists funeral had been âextremely painfulâ but everyone was determined to ensure the day âitself will be a joyous celebration of a wonderful man.â
