February 1 is transfer deadline day, though it is likely to be one of the quieter ones in Premier League history.

There's no two ways about it, this month has been dull in terms of transfer news. It is a far cry from this time last year when top-flight clubs spent a record £815million on new signings.

Now though, spending is unlikely to top the £100m mark, with Tottenham's £26m move for Genoa star Radu Dragusin the highest fee spent so far. One of the biggest names to move on was Jadon Sancho, who left Manchester United for Borussia Dortmund on loan.

Timo Werner has also joined Spurs until the end of the season, but little else of note has happened in the quietest winter window since 2010. Here, Mirror Football brings you all you need to know ahead of Thursday's deadline.

When does the January transfer window close?

The January transfer window will close at 11pm on Thursday for Premier League teams. That gives them slightly longer to do business than their European rivals, with the Bundesliga's window ending at 5pm, Serie A's ending at 7pm and La Liga's closing on Wednesday.

Teams in Portugal will have until Friday to complete their business, while Turkish Super Lig clubs have another week on top of that. The final European window to close is Switzerland on 15 February.

What happens after the deadline?

If a deal is agreed between two clubs late in the day, the Premier League is able to grant additional time for the documentation to be completed and submitted. A deal sheet can be submitted to indicate that an agreement has been reached, after which club have an additional two hours to complete the paperwork.

What are the Premier League squad rules?

Teams in the Premier League can make changes to their Premier League squad list throughout the window, with no restrictions on additions. There is a limit of a maximum of 25 over-21 first-team players, of whom eight must be homegrown.

'Homegrown' is defined as being someone of any nationality who was 21 or older on 1 January 2023 and spent a total of three years registered to an English or Welsh club before the end of the season in which they turned 21.

Squads can also be supplemented with any number of players aged under 21 whatever their home country. In order to feature this weekend, new players must be registered before midday on Friday.
