Poundland introduces 'single biggest change in 30 years' across its 850 stores
Poundland is to roll out a “complete overhaul” of its general merchandise ranges across all its 850 stores.
The huge update will see the discounter introduce 2,000 new lines by parent company Pepco. Poundland says this is the “single biggest” merchandise change it has announced in its 34-year history.
Examples from the range include the kitchenware starting at £1.25, bathroom décor from 50p and storage containers from 75p. Poundland will also be stocking a new range of faux plants and other home décor ranges from mirrors to mugs, coasters to cutlery and towels to tablecloths.
The phased changeover will see the full range introduced over the coming weeks with almost 1,000 items available from today in its UK and Ireland stores. The new lines will also be available on Poundland.co.uk, starting with 170 products from this week, rising to 450 in the weeks ahead.
Poundland commercial director Tim Bettley said: “It’s hard to underestimate the importance of this move for our customers – not least because of the incredible value these ranges also offer. Completing the transition of both clothing and home ranges to revamped ranges powered by our parent company Pepco, will not only give our stores a fresh new look, but deliver the amazing value that’s at the heart of our customer promise. A change on this scale is transformational for Poundland and we’re excited to see the customer reaction to these ranges.”

In an announcement last month, the budget retailer says it has opened 87 stores in 70 days, from September 30 to December 9. This included ten stores opening their doors for the first time last week on what has been dubbed “Super Saturday”.
Poundland expects to open more new stores in former Wilko units, moving “well beyond” the 71 leases it originally planned to take on. In addition to the former Wilko locations, Poundland has also opened new stores in flagship locations such as Birmingham Fort and Watford where it has begun trading from a former John Lewis store.
