Manchester United came into the January transfer window in desperate need of a striker and their worries have only grown since.

The Red Devils are without the services of French forward Anthony Martial after he underwent surgery. Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford was ruled out for Sunday’s FA Cup victory against Newport as boss Erik ten Hag deals with an “internal” matter.

Those two situations have left Man United’s attacking options decimated. That could potentially see the Red Devils make a late move for another forward over the closing days of the January transfer window.

Take a look at some of the options that could be considered by Ten Hag and his staff:

Serhou Guirassy

A name that has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, the Stuttgart forward could represent a bargain option. He has a £17.5m release clause written into his current contract.

Given Guirassy’s form this season, that would be a price worth paying. Ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations, he had scored 19 goals in just 16 games in all competitions - form that has seen him rival ex-Red Devils target Harry Kane.

Lois Openda

Staying in the Bundesliga, RB Leipzig striker Lois Openda has also been in stunning form this season following a summer move from Lens. The young Belgian has 17 goals to his name this season.

It was previously reported that Openda had been identified as a serious target for the Red Devils ahead of the January window. A deal might be difficult to do though. Leipzig would likely put a high price tag on their star forward, while he also has four-and-a-half years left on his contract.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting

Another option from the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich forward Choupo-Moting appears to be the most realistic signing for the Red Devils. The former Stoke and PSG forward has already been linked with a loan move to Old Trafford - a la Wout Weghorst and Odion Ighalo.

The 34-year-old has struggled for minutes for Bayern so far this season so the German giants might be willing to let him leave - particularly with his contract up in June. Though he only has three goals to his name so far this campaign so might not quite be the inspiration the Red Devils are looking for.

Joshua Zirkzee

Another name that has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford, Zirkzee has also been in terrific form this term. The former Bayern Munich hitman has nine goals to his name.

United’s Premier League rivals Arsenal have already been linked with a move for the Dutchman. While Zirkzee would greatly add to the Red Devils’ attacking options, a deal might be difficult. His current employers Bologna do not want to sell, while Bayern Munich hold a buy-back clause that they could activate.

Johan Bakayoko

More of a right-winger, Belgian international Bakayoko is another to have been linked with a switch to Old Trafford. Reports last month claimed that United were keeping a close eye on his performances and were weighing up whether to move for him.

Bakayoko, 20, has been in excellent form so far this season. In 32 games in all competitions, he has scored six and notched 13 assists. Given his age, the Red Devils might want someone more experienced but the youngster is certainly one to keep an eye on.

Marco Reus

Speaking of experience, German forward Marco Reus has it in bucket loads. The 34-year-old has made over 400 appearances for Borussia Dortmund, while he also has 48 caps for the German national team to his name.

Reus was strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford this time last year. Those rumours have not resurfaced this time around but he could still represent an excellent option with his contract expiring this summer. Reus has six goals to his name this term and would be able to slot into a number of positions across the Red Devils’ frontline.
