After finding fame in her 20s, model Caprice Bourret has a powerful message to anyone thinking life goes only one way once you hit middle age

To use Caprice Bourret’s own words, it’s time to “cut the BS” as the former World’s Sexiest Woman embraces life in her fifties.

As we chat – while she is halfway up a Serbian mountain filming a Christmas movie – the supermodel, entrepreneur and actress says she is “better than ever” and has a powerful message – particularly for those who think the only way to go in middle age is downwards.

We’re actually due to talk about her new lingerie range, but the conversation veers off into parenting, business, ageing, and the power of a “good old-fashioned orgasm”. First, we want to know why – more than two decades after her first record-breaking lingerie collaboration – she thinks now is the right time for a second bite at the cherry?

She says: “From a business perspective, this isn’t my first rodeo and I know my stuff. But also to be 52 and to look the way I do, it’s about messaging and empowerment. I’m not saying that loosely, I’m saying that with passion.” The Love by Caprice collection at Peacocks – which includes cosy-looking stripy pyjamas, floral T-shirt bras and sexy laced basques and bodysuits – is part of the “same messaging”, she says.

“I remember when I was 29 and turning 30 and going, ‘Oh my God, no, no!’ But don’t dread getting older, it’s empowering. I’m better now than I’ve ever been and I’m proud of it, and I want other women to be. If a 50-year-old wants to put on an underwired push-up bra and get those boobs up to her chin – you know what? – I got it for you and let’s do it.”

California-born Caprice, who lives in London with her British financier husband Ty Comfort, 57, and their sons Jax and Jett, 10, tells us she watches the celebrity fashion market closely and as many others have fallen by the wayside, she’s still standing. “It’s like a roller coaster,” she says. “You go up and down and up and down. I’m on an up now. In this crazy world of celebrity, all of them come and go; I’ve been around for 5,000 years.”

Caprice was so successful in the 90s and 00s that she appeared on more than 250 magazine covers and is said to have earnt $1 million for a week’s modelling. As we’re talking during a filming break – she’s the executive producer as well as the lead – she snacks on a banana, and concedes that while she’s happy with her changing body, she still works hard to keep in shape.

And knowing the power her face and name still wield in the commercial fashion world, she chose to model her new range herself. “The figure isn’t as good as it used to be and I don’t care,” she says. “I mean, I still work really hard and it hasn’t gone too wonky, but it has changed and I’m embracing and celebrating that.”

One might think it’s easy for this slender 5ft 9in blonde to say she’s happy to pose in her underwear, but Caprice doesn’t actually care what anyone else thinks and plans on modelling for at least another decade or two. “If I’m still looking good, and I will be, I’m absolutely going to take my kit off and put the bra and underwear on and do a photoshoot. And if somebody wants to try and bring me down, that’s their problem, not mine.”

She’s learnt a thing or two about public backlash and says she spent years reluctant to be opinionated. “I’ve matured, I’m super confident, and there’s a freedom now that feels amazing. I need to be real, and to cut the BS and not think, ‘I’m going to say this because this is politically correct.’ That’s not what I’m about now. I’ve become so thick-skinned and if people don’t agree and ridicule me, I’m OK with that.”

She’s grown used to being mocked for her views on sex. After once commenting that women should “take one for the team” when it came to having sex with their partners, she faced a wave of derision.

When we ask if she stands by her remarks, she says: “Let’s break it down and be honest, because the people that ridiculed me, guess what? They’re older, and they’re still single. And they’re older and still single for a God dang reason. I am happily married with two beautiful kids. You think this just happens? No, you have to work at it.

“Sex is an integral part of a relationship. Also, do it for yourself. A good old-fashioned orgasm is the greatest thing ever. It’s good for your health, your mental wellbeing, and it makes you feel confident.” Since her earlier years on the London party scene, Caprice has launched a By Caprice home range, been in Hollyoaks, and starred in West End theatre shows, and on the US reality show Ladies Of London.

In 2014, after the birth of her and Ty’s sons, one of whom was born via surrogate and the other carried by Caprice, things moved on. “It became all about my kids and it was great, I loved being in that place,” she says. “They are still my top priority, but it’s also about me again. But I work smarter. I’m more patient, just better all around.”

Her favourite moments are now at home with Ty, Jax and Jett, and her 16-year-old stepdaughter Izzy, who Caprice says is “like my daughter”. “It’s Ty, the two boys, Izzy and myself in my bed watching National Geographic,” she smiles. “Just being with my family is my favourite thing in the whole wide world.”

‌On paper, she doesn’t need to ever work a day again. So what drives her? “I love making money, and I’m not ashamed of that,” she laughs. “It motivates me. I wake up every morning, I have goals, I have dreams, and I’m going out there and I’m doing it. “The second reason is my children. I want my kids first and foremost to be happy, and I want them to make a difference in the world.

So it’s really important that in me they see a grafter, a kind person, a charitable person, a person who has lots of friends, a person that loves, a person that is a nurturer. So it’s not just one thing that drives me. Some I do for the money and others, I’m able to do because I’m creative and I do them purely for passion.”
