Men's and women's Royal Rumble results as winners heading to Wrestlemania
The first premium wrestling event is over and Cody Rhodes and Bayley are WWE Royal Rumble Champions for 2024.
Both winners earn a guaranteed title shot against a world champion of their choice at WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia on April 6. Tropicana Field, which is home to MLB team Tampa Bay Rays, was the venue for the Royal Rumble on Saturday night, with multiple records being set.
Bayley set a new women's record for winning with the longest time spent in the ring, as she spent 63 minutes and three seconds in combat before being the last woman standing. Tropicana Field also had an attendance of 48,044, which is a new record at that venue.
The road to WrestleMania is now very much underway, with Rhodes and Bayley left with less than three months to prepare for one of the biggest nights in wrestling. Here Mirror Sport brings you all the winners information from the 2024 Royal Rumble.
Men's Royal Rumble winner: Cody Rhodes
Both CM Punk and Cody Rhodes were favourite to win the Royal Rumble, and it was poetic as they were the final two men in the ring. Punk eliminated Drew McIntyre and Rhodes flipped Gunther out, and the pair battled until the end when Rhodes was victorious
Logan Paul and KSI announce new partnership with UFC president Dana WhiteRhodes took the chance to be the first back-to-back winner in 26 years, defeating Punk who made his first entrance for 10 years. McAfee was an analyst and couldn't believe it when his music started playing, but he eliminated himself after 38 seconds out of fear. Rhodes will either face Seth Rollins or Roman Reigns at WrestleMania, although he pointed at the latter in the crowd after winning.
Women's Royal Rumble winner: Bayley
After going No. 3, Bayley was left in the ring with just two other wrestlers, Jade Cargill and Liv Morgan. Bayley and Morgan began teaming up on Cargill, and when finally eliminating her Bayley used the opportunity to knock Morgan out of the ring, who was off balance.
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's cousin, Nia Jax, dominated when entering the ring as she led the Royal Rumble with eight eliminations. Jax was the only wrestler to eliminate more wrestlers than Bayley (7), and joint-third was shared by Morgan, Cargill, Naomi, and Asuka. However, they only eliminated two each, as Bayley and Jax controlled.
Bayley will now get to challenge Women's World Champion Rhea Ripley, or choose to face Damage CTRL member and WWE Women's Champion Iyo Sky. Damage CTRL is now top of the women's division.
United States Championship winner: Logan Paul
Influencer turned wrestler Logan Paul successfully defended his first United States title, in a fascinating matchup with Kevin Owens. Paul was acrobatic as ever, launched from the ropes to slam into Owens, although it also got him in trouble when the challenger sensed it coming.
The fight ended in controversy, with Paul needing backup as Owens resisted all of his power moves. Paul managed to get brass knuckles in the ring, but Owens again was smart and noticed the plan, and ended up removing them from his fingers.
But when Owens pinned Paul the referee noticed the brass knuckles in his hand, even though he'd removed them from his opponent. Owens was then disqualified and Paul retained his crown, but was still put through a table for his antics by the losing challenger.
Fatal four-way match for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns
Despite being on the brink of defeat, once again Roman Reigns remained Undisputed WWE Universal Champion after beating Randy Orton, AJ Styles, and LA Knight in the fatal four-way. There was controversy as Orton delivered three of his trademark 'RKOs' which finished with Reigns, but when pinning him his countdown was interrupted.
Paddy Pimblett could feel very awkward after UFC's deal with Logan PaulSolo Sikoa came in unannounced to stop the referee from reaching three on his count, and Reigns got away with it. Sikoa then hit Knight and Orton with his 'Samoan Spike', but failed in taking down Styles.
Knight later took out Orton and before being pushed out by Reigns, although it also led to Styles being badly hurt on the ropes. After a brutal punch on Knight by Reigns, he then pinned Styles to retain the title.
