Ex-Dallas Cowboys assistant coach Kellen Moore could be about to cross one of the NFL's biggest rivalries. He's reportedly in talks with the Philadelphia Eagles to be their next offensive coordinator, despite having spent time with their NFC foes in the past.

Moore was the offensive coordinator for Dallas in 2022 before moving to the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023, and he'd at one point seen as an offensive coaching prodigy who might eventually take on a head coach role. Now, ESPN reports that he's being interviewed by Philadelphia for their vacant offensive coordinator position. This comes after the Eagles let go of their former OC, Brian Johnson. Moore is said to be one of the top candidates available right now.

The Cowboys and Eagles have faced off 129 times since their rivalry began in 1961. The Cowboys are currently leading with 73 wins to the Eagles' 56. They've met four times in the playoffs, with the Cowboys winning three of those games.

Despite this fierce rivalry, Moore might be tempted to join the Eagles. Their offense includes stars like A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith and they made the Super Bowl following the 2022 campaign.

Before becoming a coach, Moore was an NFL quarterback for Dallas and the Detroit Lions. He retired in 2018 and soon after became the Cowboys' quarterbacks coach. In 2019, he was promoted to offensive coordinator, a position he held until 2023 when he and Dallas decided to part ways.

Moore, who was the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023, might be returning to the NFC East. The 35 year old has spent most of his career as a player and coach in this division. Interestingly, this isn't the first time the Eagles have shown interest in Moore.

In 2020, when Moore was with Dallas, Philadelphia considered him for the role of OC before deciding not to have a traditional offensive coordinator. Then, in 2021, the Eagles once again had Moore on their list of potential head coaches before they appointed Nick Sirianni.

After a disappointing end to the 2023 season, where the Eagles lost five of their last six regular-season games and had a poor performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild-card round, Sirianni and the team are looking to identify what went wrong. This follows the firing of Johnson and defensive coordinator Sean Desai.

With Vic Fangio expected to be the Eagles' next defensive coordinator, Sirianni has shared what he's looking for in the team's next offensive coordinator.

"A guy who has a vision, a guy who is going to call the plays, a guy who is going to be able to coach the quarterback in the same sense there, so it's just about getting the right guy," Sirianni told ESPN. "But I'm hiring him to do a job and to be in charge of the offense."

With Sirianni feeling the pressure after the Eagles' recent struggles, he knows he needs to find the perfect person to take Philly all the way to the Super Bowl again. Even if that means picking Moore, who used to work with their rivals, the Cowboys, the Eagles are willing to overlook that for a shot at Super Bowl glory.
