Lorraine fans can’t believe Lulu’s ‘real age’ as she announces Farewell tour
Lulu was a guest on Lorraine on Wednesday leaving TV and music fans united in disbelief over her unexpected age.
The Shout singer was a guest on 64-year-old Lorraine Kelly’s morning ITV talk show where she dropped the bombshell news that her upcoming tour, titled Champagne For Lulu, will be her last. Flabbergasted, Lorraine didn’t want to believe that her friend is set to hang up her microphone.
But Lulu insisted the time was right for her to walk away from performing live as she is now well over the retirement age - a fact that neither Lorraine nor her audience could quite accept. Featuring on the show in a segment dedicated to Lulu’s 60 years in the music business, conversation took an unexpected turn.
“When we thought, you know, I’m gonna do -” the star began before stopping herself to drop her bombshell. Lulu declared: “By the way, this is the first time I’ve said this. This is a farewell tour.”
Shocked, Lorraine interrupted with a devastated: “No! No!” But Lulu confirmed that this was, indeed, her plan. She continued: “It is a farewell tour - with family and friends, which gives a little clue. Who, what, when. Because I did a tour last year that was… it was gruelling. It was gruelling for many reasons, and I don’t have to go into them all. But, you know, I though ‘I’m seventy five!’ And I don’t feel it. But I am.”
Red-faced Lorraine blindsided by raunchy texts from husband during live showLorraine agreed Lulu looks younger than her years, and chirped: “You don’t look it, as well.” It was a sentiment Lorraine’s viewers couldn’t help but agree with - with many taking to social media to express their shock at the star’s age.
One stunned fan wrote on X: "My goodness Lulu looks great." Another made the assumption that the Scottish singer had a little help keeping her years off, and mused: "Lulu showing how important it is to have subtle tweaks and a great plastic surgeon. She looks incredible for 75 & still natural looking."
While a further wrote: "To be fair, she's obviously had a bit of work done but she does look good for her age." Lulu burst onto the music scene in 1964 with her debut single Shout - which hit number 7 in the UK and charted in the USA making her a star on both sides of the Atlantic.
In the many years since she first released a song, the star has unleashed an impressive 69 singles and 15 albums - with smash hits over the decades including Oh Me Oh My, her 1969 Eurovision entry Boom Bang-a-Bang, 11974 Bond theme The Man With The Golden Gun, and her iconic 1993 duet with Take That titled Relight My Fire.
Last year, Lulu embarked on her For The Record UK Tour - but it was beset with issues. Last May, she was forced to cancel one of her gigs after members of her crew were involved in a serious car crash. The devastated star was relieved to report at the time: “all parties are fine, though shaken, and they are not able to complete this weekend's shows.” Her farewell Champagne For Lulu tour will kick off on 9 April in Glasgow and will take in dates in Manchester, Gateshead, Southampton, Birmingham and London - with tickets available via her official website.
