Amazon Prime fans have said they “need more” of a new animated series that’s been described as “spectacular.” Available to stream for free now, Hazbin Hotel is a devilishly funny and original series set in a hotel in Hell.

The adult animated series is based on Vivienne Medrano’s animated pilot that dropped on YouTube in 2019 and quickly gained over 92 million views and a global fan base. Hazbin Hotel blends adult humour, unique characters and catchy musical numbers and centres around the exploits of Charlie Morningstar – the princess of Hell.

The eight-part series follows Lucifer’s estranged daughter as she pursues her seemingly impossible goal of rehabilitating demons to peacefully reduce overpopulation in her kingdom. After a yearly extermination imposed by angels, she opens a hotel in the hopes that patrons will be ‘checking out’ into Heaven.

While most of Hell mocks her goal, her devoted partner Vaggie – and their first test subject, adult film-star Angel Dust – stick by her side. When a powerful entity known as the ‘Radio Demon’ reaches out to assist Charlie in her endeavours, her crazy dream is given a chance to become reality.

Hazbin Hotel stars Broadway actress and singer Erika Henningsen, who lends her voice as Charlie, alongside Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Stephanie Beatriz as Charlie’s loyal girlfriend, Vaggie. The series is produced by acclaimed indie studio A24 – whose works include Everything Everywhere All At Once, Uncut Gems, Midsommar, Moonlight and Euphoria – and FOX Entertainment’s Emmy award-winning animation studio Bento Box Entertainment.

The Prime Video animation has earned some warm reviews since it launched on Friday (January 19) and currently holds an 88 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Many have taken to social media after binging its first four episodes to praise the show’s “spectacular” animation and call for more episodes.
