Jamie Dornan has shared that he's 'lucky to be alive' after an encounter with toxic caterpillars during a holiday to Portugal.

The Tourist began suffering from heart attack symptoms and was hospitalised due to the pain, but it's thought that the symptoms were caused by the caterpillars. Good Morning Britain presenter pal Gordon Smart, 43, also suffered some symptoms after they were at the golfing resort.

Speaking on The Good, the Bad and the Unexpected, Gordon explained how they had a 'great' first day at the hotel. Barely 24 hours later, he started feeling 'tingling in his left hand and tickling in his left arm' - symptoms similar to a heart attack.

And it's not the first health battle Jamie Dornan has faced over the years.

Jamie admitted that he suffered from depression after the death of his mother in 1998 when he was just 16. He encountered further tragedy when four of his friends died in a car crash one year later.

Speaking to Jay Rayner on his 'Out To Lunch With...' podcast, he shared: "I had a very rough couple of years that I guess I'm still dealing with both of [those] things today, every day."

He also recently reflected on the time his father tragically passed away from Covid and he wasn't able to be there for him during his last moments.

During his appearance on the Late Late Show and speaking to host Patrick Kielty, he admitted: "It was pretty severe grief obviously and shock.

"It was an extremely difficult time in my life, which is a mad thing to say because we shot The Tourist that year and Belfast came out that year. A lot of things changed for the better in that year, but it was the worst year of my life actually, weirdly."

The Fifty Shades of Grey star also revealed he was once almost head-butted in Clapham, but he suffered broken bones after the incident.

On an episode of Channel 4's Gogglebox in 2015, he cosied up on the sofa with his Shaun of the Dead actor pal, and showed viewers many sides of his personality.

Dornan recalled the time he nearly got "head butted in a club in Clapham" and broke his nose and cracked his teeth.

And, of course, there was a mishap while filming Fifty Shades of Grey - but it wasn't Jamie who came worse off, it was Dakota Johnson.

She said: "I got whiplash once from him throwing me on the bed. So f**king painful. I wish we had a gag reel from the shoot", reports Belfast Telegraph.

Dornan also wore a "wee bag" while filming intimate scenes to protect his modesty.
