Jamie Dornan sheds light on 'worst year' of his life in candid confession

The Tourish actor Jamie Dornan has candidly opened up about the 'worst year of his life' as he revealed the heartbreak he suffered due to losing his dad.

The Fifty Shades of Grey star, 41, reflected on the time his father tragically passed away from Covid and he wasn't able to be there for him during his last moments. The actor said he felt a 'pretty severe grief and shock' at the time.

During his appearance on the Late Late Show recently and speaking to host Patrick Kielty, he admitted: "It was pretty severe grief obviously and shock.

"It was an extremely difficult time in my life, which is a mad thing to say because we shot The Tourist that year and Belfast came out that year. A lot of things changed for the better in that year, but it was the worst year of my life actually, weirdly."

The Hollywood icon and Belfast native shared fond memories of his father and admitted he was a well-known figure in his hometown. He even joked that his dad was more famous than him as more people had recognised him on the streets.

"My dad was way more famous than me in Belfast, everyone knew him. My dad was an obstetrician gynaecologist at the Royal Maternity and as a result of that delivered over 6,000 babies."

Just last month, the actor revealed he feared for his life after receiving threatening and bizarre messages from Fifty Shades fans. Speaking to the Irish Times, Dornan said: "The fandom of that franchise is still feverish. They’ve got all kinds of mad theories. Like that Dakota [Johnson, his Fifty Shades costar] and I have a child together.

I don’t know who they think brings it up!" Jamie also claims he was followed after a tabloid revealed where he lived. "At one point, we had a stalking, getting-the-authorities involved situation," he said before adding: "all kinds of mad stuff, which if I’m honest I’m quite fearful of, so I stay away from it."

Jamie Dornan is best known for his role as serial killer Paul Spector in the crime series The Fall. In October 2013, he replaced Charlie Hunnam as Christian Grey in the 50 Shades of Grey film.

Outside of the spotlight, the star is a dad of three and is currently married to his wife and fellow actor Amelia Warner. He once revealed that he 'always fancied' Amelia, 41 - who starred in Casualty and Waking the Dead - before meeting her at a mutual friend's party in 2010.
