The Tourist star Jamie Dornan has revealed he followed a woman on the London Underground.

The actor, 41, admitted he wasn't proud of the move after he tried to prepare for his role as a stalker in The Fall. He briefly followed a woman after she left the Tube to get into character. Jamie played murderer and stalker Paul Spector in the crime drama series, alongside Gillian Anderson, Bronagh Waugh and Aisling Franciosi.

He attempted to get into the character's mindset by stalking a woman. The star, who is best known for his role in the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise as Christian Grey, followed her "around a couple of street corners" in London. Jamie said he kept his distance from her and even though she got off a few stops before he was planning, he decided to "commit" to it.

"I followed her around a couple of street corners and then was like: 'What are you doing?',” he told the LA Times. He added: “I’m sort of not proud of myself. But I do honestly think I learned something from it because I’ve obviously never done any of that. It was intriguing and interesting to enter that process of ‘what are you following her for?’ and ‘what are you trying to find out?’”

However, Jamie recently admitted he was subject to stalking. He revealed crazed Fifty Shades of Grey fans have created theories and even discovered where he lived. The Hollywood blockbuster movies were based on the erotic book trilogy by E. L. James. They followed the lead character Anastasia Steele as she encountered wealthy entrepreneur Christian Grey.

The best-selling book released in 2015 sold over 150 million copies worldwide and gained a dedicated fanbase. The first film pocketed $500m at the global office after hitting the big screen in 2011. Jamie admitted he still receives messages and theories from fans, including speculation that he and co-star Dakota Johnson have a life together, despite him being happily married to another woman.

Speaking to theIrish Times, the Belfast star said: "The fandom of that franchise is still feverish. They’ve got all kinds of mad theories. Like that Dakota [Johnson, his Fifty Shades costar] and I have a child together. Jamie also claimed he was followed after a tabloid revealed where he lived. "At one point, we had a stalking, getting-the-authorities involved situation, all kinds of mad stuff, which if I’m honest I’m quite fearful of, so I stay away from it."

He also told the Independent : "Someone turned up at my house when my kids were there. It was not something...The more I can block that out, the better it is for me and the family."

Away from the spotlight, Jamie is a dad of three and is currently married to his wife and fellow actor Amelia Warner. He once revealed that he 'always fancied' Amelia, 41 - who starred in Casualty and Waking the Dead - before meeting her at a mutual friend's party in 2010.
