Succession and The Bear were the big winners at the 75th Emmy Awards on Monday (January 15). Stars of TV, film and beyond descended on Downton Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater for the delayed ceremony, which had been pushed back from September due to the US actors’ and writers’ strikes.

Succession took home six awards just days after dominating the Golden Globes. HBO’s satirical drama took home best drama, best writing for a drama and best performance awards for Sarah Snook, Kieran Culkin and Matthew Macfadyen.

The Bear dominated the comedy categories, taking home six Emmys for its first season including for best comedy series and best writing for a comedy series. Its star Jeremy Allen White was named best actor in a comedy series, while his co-stars Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Ayo Edebiri were named best supporting actor and actress respectively.

The hit comedy-drama – which also earned four Golden Globes last week – follows award-winning New York chef Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto (White) as he returns to his hometown of Chicago to take over his family’s troubled sandwich shop following his brother’s death. The Bear is created, written and directed by Christopher Storer, who took home the best comedy writing and directing Emmys.

Storer developed the series using a real Chicago sandwich shop run by his friend’s family as inspiration. Since its debut in 2022, The Bear has been met with widespread acclaim and currently holds an overall score of 99 percent on Rotten Tomatoes – while its first series boasts a perfect 100.
