A British coastal town has been slammed as a "dump with a sea view" that has not seen much change in the last 30 years.

Visitors to Weston-super-Mare have described it as a "bleak" shadow of its former self. People who visit the Somerset beachfront town have expressed their disappointment on TripAdvisor, complaining about the lack of activities in what was once a bustling resort.

One upset reviewer referred to the place as a "dump with a sea view", lamenting the "abandoned" state of the town. Jan V, from Birmingham, wrote: "Weston Super Mare has often been described as a dump with a sea view, and from my experience yesterday following an absence of 30 years, nothing has changed much, except there is now the burned-out crumbling remains of the abandoned old pier left to photograph."

They added: "Weston town itself has become a sad, featureless, cheap and tacky environment and a bleak remnant of a once thriving popular English beach resort." Another unhappy visitor described the town as "extremely bad", while another said it is "filthy". Despite the harsh criticism, some TripAdvisor users were satisfied with the food and drink available.

Andy G, who recently returned to the beach pier after 50 years, described his fish and chips meal as "excellent", reports the Daily Star. This comes despite Weston-super-Mare being named one of the UK's poorest areas.

Some people who visited Weston-super-Mare recently said it has a "lovely beach", adding there is plenty of space to walk dogs, and let children play. A person wrote: "Lovely beach, we went in November so didn’t get to see much of the sea as it was low tide while we were at the beach and we would have had to go through the mud to get to it, which there are plenty of signs warning you not to do! But it was clean and plenty of sand to walk along and for the children to play in.

"There were lots of dogs off lead at this time of year but the owners mostly kept them away from me and the children. There were some that didn’t seem to have brilliant control over them, this didn’t bother us as we are used to dogs, however it's something to bear in mind especially if you have children who are wary of dogs!

"We didn't see any dog poo though. We always managed to find a space in The Sovereign shopping centre which was reasonably priced. We would definitely return even out of season as there was still plenty to occupy yourselves with.
