Lorraine's Christine issues an apology after 'unforgivable on screen error'

Lorraine was forced to issue an apology on Friday's show after an "unforgivable on screen error" on Thursday.

Earlier this week, the ITV chat show had a special Dancing On Ice segment in which they chatted to the 2024 lineup. However, when talking to Coronation Street's Claire Sweeney, the banner on screen mistook the star for Steps singer Claire Richards. It read: "Claire Sweeney, Steps singer."

The blunder didn't go unnoticed by fans with Instagram account HUNSNET quickly posting the error, writing: "You gorra know your Sweeneys from your Richards babe… Side note, can’t wait to see @claire.sweeney bringing the razzle dazzle to @dancingonice."

Claire, 52, who plays Cassandra "Cassie" Plummer on Corrie, was quick to reply as she saw the funny side, writing: "Easy mistake it’s happened before... And I am a massive Steps fan 5678", adding: "I’m so flattered to be in Steps [heart emoji] and thank you for the support xxx."

On Friday's Lorraine, guest host Christine Lampard issued a tongue-in-cheek apology on behalf of the ITV show after the "unforgivable on screen error". Christine, 44, said: "Now we have to apologise to all our viewers for an unforgivable on screen error on yesterday's show.

"In our behind-the-scenes special with Ria Hebden, we - I was not part of that - mistakenly put on screen that soap legend, Claire Sweeney, was in fact a singer in Steps! The internet is outraged - outraged!" Christine then read out Claire's response, adding: "Always a trooper, we send our love to both the Claires!" Taking to Twitter, now X, after the apology one viewer responded: "Brilliant, Claire Sweeney from Steps…#lorraine."

The ITV ice-skating competition will kick off on Sunday with the first batch of contestants. Also among the 2024 lineup are radio presenter Adele Roberts, S Club 7 star Hannah Spearritt, West End star Amber Davies, Olympian Greg Rutherford, former Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas and EastEnders star Ricky Norwood.

Completing the series are TV personality Miles Nazaire, comedian and writer Lou Sanders, former professional boxer Ricky Hatton, Emmerdale’s Roxy Shahidi and former Olympian Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards. It comes as Claire admitted she is worried Coronation Street fans won't support her on Dancing on Ice.

The ITV soap star, who is partnered with Colin Grafton on the skating show, has admitted she's concerned her character on the cobbles may affect viewers' initial perception of her on the ice. Claire arrived in Weatherfield last year as Cassie, the long-lost mother of stalwart Tyrone Dobbs.

Cassie has caused her fair share of trouble on the cobbles during her time on Coronation Street so far and soap icon Claire confessed this may impact whether ITV soap fans will want to keep her on the ice. She said: "My character is a bit unpleasant at times, so I don't know how that'll affect me with the judging and voting! With my character everything comes from good but then things go wrong for her!"
