A rude cruise passenger has been lambasted for forgetting her manners while having dinner on a cruise ship.

If you've ever been on a cruise, then you will have likely spent a fair amount of time in the buffet. On most ships the all-you-can-eat, self-serve restaurant is at the heart of daily events and a location most sailors will return to dozens of times each day.

After a few days eating the same food over and over again can become a little tiring, leading many to try out the a la carte options - even if these often require extra payment. A cruise passenger recently took to Reddit to share their experience with a difficult fellow passenger in one of the ship’s speciality restaurants. They said they underwent a “dining nightmare" when a woman started “screaming” over a bowl of soup, writes the Express.

“Woman absolutely loses her marbles over being ignored for 20 minutes. We were seated right before her and we had not been in the restaurant for 15 minutes. She received her soup and felt it was too cold. She had the soup for no more than three minutes when she gets up and starts screaming, verging on crying, for attention. It was quite the show. The crew tried their best to coddle her the rest of the meal," the irked customer wrote.

“It was such a surreal experience, the level of freak out she had over what was most likely fairly warm soup. I ordered it too and we got it around the same time so unless they have a pot that they bust out just to torture solo diners, it was fine.”

With many cruise packages the standard buffet options are included for no extra charge, while there are usually a number of specialised restaurants that charge for dinner and drinks. Guests may expect a higher level of service here than at the included venues.

Drama is far from contained to the a la carte zones however. One cruise passenger explained how they skip the line on the ship's buffets and has urged others to do the same. While cutting in line might sound like a huge buffet faux pas and at odds with everything British children have been taught, one guest has said they think more people should do it. In fact, they've argued that it could actually make the experience better for everyone.

“There are a variety of choices and different sections to the buffet. I’m not waiting for the person in front of me to go through the pasta, salad, hot dishes etc. just to finally get to the section that I’m actually getting food from," Reddit user ‘Ok-Opportunity-574’ explained.

“Nope. I will happily skip right in front of them to grab food. When everyone waits their turn you end up with one person getting food and multiple others just standing there. Go around the stopped person and keep it moving.”

Buffets will usually have several different sections which means it may be more efficient for guests to go straight to the one they need rather than wait in line. If others think they've lost their place in the queue as a result, tension may follow.
