As Julia Roberts makes her iconic debut on British Vogue she finally dished on the real reason why she refuses to strip down on-camera as she shares an unexpected link to a feminist icon.

This week the 56-year-old dropped jaws as she showcased her timeless beauty in an iconic all-red leather suit on the cover of the famous magazine. Julia has become a household name during her incredible over 35 years in the acting industry - a career that she has managed to keep purely G-rated despite her famous breakthrough role as a fully-clothed prostitute in Pretty Woman.

During a vulnerable interview with screenwriter Richard Curtis for British Vogue, Julia opened up about her boundary on refusing to take part in nude scenes throughout her successful career. She explained: "My G-rated career…you know, not to be criticising others’ choices, but for me to not take off my clothes in a movie or be vulnerable in physical ways is a choice that I guess I make for myself."

The former Notting Hill star went on to suggest her strong stance on the issue could in part be due to her unexpected familial tie with a famous feminist icon. Julia explained that she recently discovered the connection through Dr. Henry Gates on his famous show Finding Your Roots. She said: "'Can you guess who I’m DNA cousins with?' because there’s no telling what horrible person you would choose just to embarrass me in this interview, but I am DNA cousins with Gloria Steinem."

Julia proudly shared the fun fact as Gloria is an icon for women everywhere and has even been coined the "mother of feminism." Gloria was an outspoken leader of the feminist movement in the 60s that rallied for women's rights and urged the importance of her generation to advance the women's liberation.

In other previous interviews, Julia has also spoken on her refusal to participate in nude scenes pointing towards her children looking up to her at home. Back in 2012, Julia told The Standard: "You know it's not really what I do, so if you are going ask me to do it, you have to expect it to be toned down. You know, as a mum of three, I feel like that." Earlier, in 2007, Julia also touched on her stance and told OK! Magazine: "I wouldn't do nudity in a film. To act with my clothes on is a performance. To act with my clothes off is a documentary."

As Julia dazzled in her brand-new cover for the magazine, Robert asked what her secret was to eternal youth was. To which Julia earnestly credited her family and said: "Good genes, leading a life that is fulfilling, and I have said this – and I say it usually as kind of a joke – but I do believe in the love of a good man. I believe that my husband loves me and cares for me in a way that makes me feel deeply, deeply happy. And anytime you see someone who’s happy, it doesn’t matter how old they are."
