The Buffalo Bills have confirmed that Damar Hamlin is now ready to continue his recovery at home after being discharged from a health facility nearby.

After being discharged from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Hamlin was moved to Buffalo General Medical Center to continue his recovery. The Bills safety suffered a cardiac arrest while playing the Cincinnati Bengals on January 3, but has responded well following the harrowing incident.

The sporting world has been behind Hamlin, who has since been keeping fans updated about his progress on Twitter. And now the 24-year-old can finally head home, after a terrifying nine days.

In a tweet posted by the Bills on Wednesday, they confirmed via a statement: "Damar Hamlin has been discharged from Buffalo General Medical Center/Gates Vascular Institute, a Kaleida Health facility in Buffalo, NY.

"Hamlin was admitted on Monday and went through a comprehensive medical evaluation as well as a series of cardiac, neurological and vascular testing on Tuesday. Jamie Nadler, MD, critical care physician and Chief Quality Officer at Kaleida Health, and the care team lead for Hamlin said:

"We have completed a series of tests and evaluations, and in consultation with the team physicians, we are confident that Damar can be safely discharged to continue his rehabilitation at home and with the Bills."

The amazing update comes after Hamlin himself tweeted, suggesting that he could be returning home very soon. The Bills star tweeted: "Not home quite just yet. Still doing and passing a bunch of tests.

"Special thank-you to Buffalo General it’s been nothing but love since arrival! Keep me in y’all prayers please!"

Hamlin is now responding well, and medical experts are hopeful for a full recovery - although there are no assurances over his playing career just yet. But it's a miracle he's here at all, after suffering a cardiac arrest during the first quarter of the Bills clash against the Bengals.

The 24-year-old collapsed after making a tackle on Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins. His heart went into cardiac arrest and ambulance crews performed CPR and used a defibrillator to restart his heart before taking him to the hospital.

The game was postponed before being cancelled all together, but the NFL have all stood as one in support for Hamlin. The Bills are one of the favourites for the Super Bowl too, and it would be some story.
