Mel B has teased that the five original Spice Girls will hit the road to tour once again - and says fans will know more in a few short weeks time.

The 48-year-old singer rocketed to international fame in 1996 when, along with Emma Bunton, 47, Mel C, 49, Geri Horner, 51, and 49-year-old Victoria Beckham, the Spice Girls released their debut single Wannabe. The band was rocked in 1998 when Geri quit and the group ultimately disbanded two years later.

However, the ladies reformed in 2007 to embark on a reunion tour - with all five taking part - and they later performed as a five at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. But since then, the full five have failed to tour together - as Victoria opts to focus on her fashion label instead.

Now Mel has teased that all five ladies are planning to take to the stage to perform again - as she along with Emma, Mel C and Geri enjoyed success in 2019 with a tour without Vicky involved.

Opening up to American feel-good morning radio show Today with Hoda & Jenna, the singer known as Scary Spice declared: "Well, I've been saying this forever, but now we're actually going to be releasing some really good news in about a few weeks that involves all five of us.”

Mel went on to explain that coordinating a new tour is tricky, saying: "there's five of us and we've got five different diaries, and we're all parents." But she added that fans will be "100 percent satisfied" by the imminent news. She added: "It's going to be the gift that keeps on giving, without saying too much about it… I’m going to get myself into so much trouble." This is far from the first time the Spice Girls have teased that they will perform as a five again.

In November 2021, Mel C teased that the group was planning to perform at Glastonbury - a dream that has repeatedly failed to materialise. She said at the time: "I don't think we've been asked in all honesty, we haven't been asked to do it, but I do believe it could be the thing that would see all five girls on stage. So should we start a petition?"

Mel had previously said on ITV’s Lorraine: “That's the dream. We'd love to do [Glastonbury], we'd absolutely love to do it?… Not to speak out of turn, but between you and I, I know that Mrs Beckham would love to do Glastonbury… But I know it's something that's been rumoured a lot and it's never really been seriously talked about.”

The same rumours sprung up last year - but again failed to materialise. A source claimed that the group were planning to perform and make a documentary of their time back on the stage.

They claimed: "For the past few years the Spice Girls have still been operating day-to-day as a four but, for the first time in a long time, Victoria is now chipping in and happy to celebrate a landmark 30 years of girl power... Their schedules are pretty manic so getting them all in one room at any one time is hard. But over the past six months there’s been more contact as a five than at any time since the 2012 Olympics."
