Manchester United will take a break from their Premier League commitments this evening as they take on Wigan in the FA Cup.

The game will give a chance for the Red Devils to distract themselves from their poor start to the season. Erik ten Hag will also get the chance to get a further insight into his squad with Jadon Sancho, Amad and Anthony Martial all linked with moves away.

In terms of incomings, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is on United's radar but one striker they won't be getting is Timo Werner, who is currently finalising a six-month loan switch to Tottenham. A sensational swap deal involving Crystal Palace's Michael Olise has also been suggested.

Elsewhere, a new defender is also on their shopping list amid recent links with former Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen and ex-Barcelona star Jean-Clair Todibo.

Here Mirror Football brings you all the latest updates and transfer gossip from around Old Trafford.

Ex-Man Utd star Lingard offers himself to Barca

Ex-Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard has offered his services to European heavyweights Barcelona.

Lingard, 31, was released by Nottingham Forest in June last year and remains without a club. Now the 32-time England international wants to use the January transfer window to get back into football, having trained with former loan side West Ham and then Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq in the early stages of this season.

Seemingly keen to remain in Europe, though, a report from Barcelona-based outlet Sport claims that Lingard has offered himself to the La Liga champions. Lingard is said to view Barca as 'an excellent springboard' to revive his fading career.

Back-up goalkeepers

Onana's expected inclusion against Wigan tonight suggests Ten Hag may not be convinced by the ability of either back up goalkeepers - Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton.

But the head coach insists he believes they can step in once Onana heads to Afcon after tonight's game.

"At some point Andre will go," Ten Hag said. "We are totally happy and we constructed this group of keepers because we are comfortable with this.

Who do you want Man Utd to sign in January?

Let us know in the comments below!

Door opened to Guirassy move

Stuttgart sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth has opened the door to a January departure for Manchester United target Serhou Guirassy.

He said: “There has been nothing new since the last Bundesliga matchday. Our strategy is not to hope, fear and keep our fingers crossed."

“It's not a wish-for-you thing. We are constantly in contact, and if constellations arise that are favorable, then we will do it. If not, then not. We will keep our eyes and ears open. We're not under any pressure, but the squad situation is a bit tense at the moment."

Phillips urged to consider Man Utd move

West Ham star Michail Antonio has urged Manchester United to move for Manchester City outcast Kalvin Phillips.

Speaking on the Footballer's Football podcast, he said: "For me, I'm going to Juventus, after Juventus, it would be Man United and then it would be the Magpies.

"That's from me, from a personal standpoint I always wanted to play in Italy, Inter Milan always had a place in my heart, and the city, I love it, I love Milan."

United sent Wigan warning

Wigan star Callum McManaman has warned Manchester United that his side are ready to spring a shock in their FA Cup clash tonight.

McManaman said: "All the lads are buzzing. The atmosphere around the place is really good. I don’t think we could’ve got a better draw, to be honest. We’ve got nothing to lose. We just need to go out there, express ourselves and be confident."

Ten Hag opens up on Sancho and Van de Beek exits

Erik ten Hag has admitted Jadon Sancho and Donny van de Beek failed to cut it at Manchester United.

"That is always on those players and how much confidence you have in your capabilities," Ten Hag said. "But I can tell you one thing - the Premier League is tough. Man United, that is tough to play there because it's more easy to play in almost any other team than Man United because the pressure is that high always.

"You have to deal with that. But if you have confidence in yourself, this is the best challenge and this is definitely the best club you want to be at as a player. It depends on player to player, and it depends especially on the character of the player, their personality."

Sancho loan move update

Negotiations between Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United over a loan deal for Jadon Sancho are continuing.

United are keen to move the attacker on after he fell out with boss Erik ten Hag. According to the Daily Mail, Dortmund have so far offered around £3m, though without an option to buy clause included.

There remains a willingness to get a deal done, though important details are still to be agreed between the parties.

Ten Hag issues disappointing injury update

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has issued a disappointing injury update on Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez, with the duo still weeks away from a return.

"They are a long time already back on the grass and now they return back into team training but not fully, so partial," Ten Hag told a news conference.

"Now they have to make the next steps and that may take some days, I think even weeks."

Ten Hag opens up on Van de Beek struggles

Erik ten Hag has insisted that Donny van de Beek's Manchester United career was ruined by injury.

“He has had many injuries, first of all,” Ten Hag said. “From the first moment I came in here at Manchester United, he wasn’t the player he was at Ajax because he was injured. So many times he was not available and then he struggled for a long time to recover from that injury.

“That is probably the main reason why he was not playing. We decided for a loan in the summer but it didn’t come and then his opportunities are few because also we make appointments and we make agreements with players and contract players in that position. The competition was high.”

Good morning!

Good morning and welcome along to Mirror Football's live Manchester United blog on Monday.

We've got plenty to get through before the evening's clash against Wigan in the FA Cup so let's get going.

Berbatov backs Man Utd victory

Dimitar Berbatov has admitted Manchester United's FA Cup third round trip to Wigan is a "must win" in the context of the Red Devils' season.

He told Betfair: "I can't go for anything else other than a victory for United. They must win no matter what, I don't care how. It's impossible for United not to win this game.

"If they lose then the rest of this season will be a nightmare. Wigan have nothing to lose, they'll play and enjoy it as much as they can. United are the ones who have everything to lose.

"It's a game where everyone says: "It's f***ing Wigan, you should easily beat them. But this is the FA Cup, major upsets have happened in this competition, so United need to pay attention otherwise it'll be a nightmare.

"In my mind, this should be a convincing Man United win. In reality, let's see."

Hannibal set for move

According to Fabrizio Romano, Hannibal Mejbri is set for a loan move to Sevilla.

It is claimed that both Freiburg and Lyon were also interested in Hannibal but the midfielder has opted to join Sevilla instead, with the La Liga side now in talks with Manchester United about the exact terms of the move.

Amad fires back at Palmer

Amad Diallo has fired back at Carlton Palmer after the former Leeds midfielder suggested the winger should sign for Birmingham if Tony Mowbray is appointed as their new manager.

Speaking to Football League World, Palmer said: "He's fully fit now. He really enjoyed his time at Sunderland but he was working under Tony Mowbray, and he made it clear that he would go back to work for Tony Mowbray.

"This could put a spanner in the works because although Sunderland are keen to sign him, if Tony Mowbray gets the Birmingham job then I’m sure Amad will be keen to join him there."

However, Amad has since denied the rumours. In reply to a tweet which shared Palmer's comments, the Manchester United man said: "stop lying mate.!"

Man Utd keen on Christensen

Manchester United and Newcastle are both 'very interested' in signing Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen.

According to Catalan outlet Sport, United and Newcastle have registered their interest in a January move. It's added that Newcastle have previously explored a deal, as Magpies boss Eddie Howe bids to strengthen his back line.

However, Christensen has made it clear that he wants to stay at Barca, despite manager Xavi favouring three other centre-backs. The 27-year-old has only played four games in a row once this season, with Xavi preferring Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde and summer signing Inigo Martinez, who's left-footed.

Ten Hag hails Amad's weapons

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has hailed Amad Diallo for his “weapons” after comparisons were made with Red Devils icon Cristiano Ronaldo.

Amad has returned to first-team contention over recent weeks. He made his first appearance of the season in the Red Devils’ 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest earlier this month.

Despite that reverse, Ten Hag was left impressed with the youngster’s performance. Asked about what he brings to the squad, the Dutchman replied: “Yeah, he is very ball secure.

"He can bring a key actions, final passes, score a goal. And so I think he has some weapons. That is always what you are looking for with offensive players.”

Ten Hag drops Amad hint

Erik ten Hag has talked up Amad Diallo in a hint that the winger could remain at Manchester United beyond January.

Amad enjoyed a stunning season on loan at Sunderland last season but spent the first half of the 2023/24 campaign on the sidelines.

He's impressed coming off the bench for United, though, and was praised by Ten Hag prior to Monday night's FA Cup clash with Wigan.

Ten Hag said of Amad: "He can provide key actions, final passes, score a goal. He has some weapons. That's always what you look for in attacking players."

Jadon Sancho to Dortmund: what we know

There's been no official confirmation as of yet, but it seems a safe bet that Jadon Sancho will be a Borussia Dortmund player before February.

The Manchester United outcast is the subject of interest from his former club and talks over a loan deal have been ongoing this week.

United have declined the inclusion of a purchase option in said deal, but that's not thought to have been a major obstacle in negotiations.

Talk that the move could be confirmed this weekend hasn't materialised, but it is believed to be close.

Saha: Man Utd should sign Benzema

Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha believes his old club should make a cheeky move for Karim Benzema.

The former Real Madrid striker was part of the influx of blockbuster names who moved to the Saudi Pro League in the summer.

But Saha reckons United should try and bring him in to work with Rasmus Hojlund.

Saha said: "He [Benzema] will shake up the United frontline and that’s what they need. He will definitely score goals and he will link up the play a lot better. It’s just a dream, but Karim is still a very professional guy, he’s the type of striker that Hojlund will learn from, but that’s just a fantasy."

Man Utd interested in former Chelsea defender

Manchester United are one of the Premier League clubs interested in Andreas Christensen, according to Sport.

Christensen joined the Spanish giants from Chelsea back in the summer of 2022 but Barcelona are planning to move the Danish defender on.

ICYMI: Choupo-Moting wants United move

It's emerged over the weekend that Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has 'agreed' to join Manchester United.

The veteran forward, 34, has fallen down the pecking order at Bayern Munich following the arrival of Harry Kane in the summer.

And unsurprisingly, the prospect of joining United for six months is an appealing one for the former PSG and Stoke City man.

What do Man Utd need this month?

Yes, Manchester United need signings. Stat.

But what does Erik ten Hag actually need to do with whatever funds he is given in the coming weeks?

The most obvious thing is probably to sign a striker. Rasmus Hojlund has struggled to adapt to the Premier League and needs somebody to ease the goalscoring burden which has been placed upon him given nobody else at the club seems to be stepping up.

Elsewhere, reinforcements in defence would be handy particularly given United are still suffering with injuries.

Perhaps the biggest thing is offloading the deadwood, although it remains to be seen how much luck the club will have doing that in a tougher window after failing to get rid of several high-earners in the summer.

Villarreal set sights on Pellistri

La Liga outfit Villarreal are plotting a move for Facundo Pellistri this month.

The Manchester United winger has made a handful of appearances for Erik ten Hag this season but could be allowed to move amid interest from overseas.

According to The Sun, United are even open to giving Pellistri the green light to move on a permanent basis rather than sending him out on loan.

Ten Hag plots Olise swap deal

Erik ten Hag is planning to use Aaron Wan-Bissaka as bait in a bid to lure Michael Olise to Manchester United.

That's according to The Star who claim that United are ready to make a cash-plus-player bid for the Crystal Palace winger, who signed a new contract back in the summer.

Ratcliffe discovers Casemiro transfer problem

Manchester United are struggling to offload Casemiro due to his huge salary.

That's according to The Sun, who claim that the Brazilian's £350,000-a-week earnings is making it hard to shift the former Real Madrid ace.

United are open to offers for Casemiro this month as they try to trim their wagebill and raise funds.

ICYMI: Werner set for Spurs loan

Just in case you've been under a rock for the past 24 hours, Timo Werner is heading to Tottenham.

Mirror Football had previously reported that Werner was on Manchester United's radar.

But the former Chelsea man is heading to Old Trafford. Back to the drawing board, Erik...

Hannibal weighing up loan exit

Hannibal Mejbri is seemingly poised to leave Manchester United on loan this month - but it remains to be seen where the midfielder will end up.

The Tunisia international was courted by Sevilla in the summer and the La Liga outfit is believed to be his preferred destination.

However, Everton are attempting to hijack said deal at the eleventh hour.

Sancho latest: Dortmund return edges closer

Jadon Sancho is inching closer to a Borussia Dortmund return.

The Manchester United winger has been exiled since falling out with Erik ten Hag back in September and Dortmund are set to re-sign him on a six month loan.

While terms have yet to be fully agreed, it's understood that all parties are on the same page and a deal is close.
