Golden Globes addresses Epstein list with controversial 'paedophile' joke

Viewers and attendees alike were floored as comedian Jim Gaffigan made a daring paedophile joke at the 81st Golden Globe Awards, seemingly referencing unsealed Jeffrey Epstein records.

The documents linked a number of Hollywood stars to the sex offender, prompting actors to come forward and deny any direct link to Epstein.

As Jim took the stage to honour comedian Ricky Gervais for the newly added category TV standup comedy Golden Globe he pulled out one jaw-dropping joke. He told the crowd of A-listers: "This is so exciting for me. I can't even believe I'm in the entertainment industry. It's so unlikely - I'm from a small town in Indiana, I'm not a pedophile...I don't know if that's a new category here, but..."

Jim's unexpected joke was met with cheer and nervous laughter as many couldn't believe someone would reference the scandal during a major award show. This comes as more than 100 celebrities, some of which were in attendance at the Golden Globes, were named in newly-published legal documents linked to the paedophile Epstein.

The disclosure of the batch of court files came following a judge's order in December. It included the names of many of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell's associates and friends. Many people named on the list share no direct link to Epstein.

The millionaire financier, who mingled with royalty and celebrities, was accused of running a large network of underage girls for sex. While awaiting trial Jeffery took his own life in his jail cell in 2019.

Golden Globe viewers were floored at the bold joke with many praising Jim's bravery for the risky move. One fan wrote: "JIM GAFFIGAN HAS JUST BEEN GOATED WITH PED0 JOKE AT #GoldenGlobes." Another wrote: "OH SNAP! Jim Gaffigan said THAT." And a third wrote: "I hope Jim Gaffigan has his own personal security to follow him out of the building later after calling out the p3d0s of the entertainment industry on live TV."
