Neil Morrissey's pub, Plume of Feathers in Barlaston, has been slammed over its service on Christmas Day

Diners at Neil Morrissey's pub, The Plume of Feathers in Barlaston, have hit out at the service they received on Christmas Day after paying £90-a-head for their slap-up meal, with kids being charged £45-a-head for the no-expense spared meal.

The 61-year-old actor, who is famous for his roles in Men Behaving Badly and Line of Duty among many others, took over as licencee of the pub in 2017 and has received rave reviews for its food and what it has to offer. It would seem though that there was a slip in service on Christmas Day which has left a bad taste in the mouth of some that were there.

The Christmas Day menu had many salivating for their festive fare with duck liver pate, Kir royal sorbet, roast turkey breast, Christmas pudding ice cream, and mince pies on offer. Some reviewers have said that the service they received on the day was "shocking" with the pub's management saying that they will "take on board" the issues which were raised.

Timings seemed to be one of the main problems, with one reviewer saying they were 50 minutes late being called to their table for the six-course Christmas Day meal. They wrote in their review: "The table was not laid and there were no crackers. We waited 15 minutes for our drinks order and the service was very slow. The six-course menu was amazing. But we think the management got greedy and were trying to do too many covers in too little time to serve and satisfy the diners on a special day. We were paying £90-a-person and that's great if the service compliments the efforts of the kitchen."

The reviewer continued: "The Plume does not need to try hard because the chef is excellent. We would have been happy to pay the same amount for just three or four courses, including coffee, and we missed ours because of the time it took to get the others done. I hope next year they do fewer courses and let the Plume do the Plume and not bite off more than they can chew. Great kitchen, great service, fewer covers = happy customers who will be happy to pay £90pp if they are looked after."

Another reviewer shared that they had booked for a party of eight and that they suffered a similar tardy nature to timing with them being shown to their table over 30 minutes late, with them having to wait another 20 minutes for drinks to arrive. Writing on TripAdvisor, they stated: "A pregnant lady in our group had to order a bag of crisps, can you believe, because she was feeling hungry and sick."

They added: "The whole experience was a complete shambles and anyone who had the same experience as us in the second sitting of what should have been a special Christmas Day meal should be refunded for what turned out to be a complete Christmas Day meal ruined for us all. I hope Neil Morrissey reads this review and sorts it out Very, very disappointed."

When asked about the Christmas Day reviews by StokeOnTrentLive, a Plume of Feathers spokesman said: “We are sorry that on this occasion we have had a couple of disappointed customers on what was a very busy day. We do take all feedback on board.”
