Susanna Reid was forced to apologise on Thursday's Good Morning Britain after an incident backstage at ITV towers.

The star was fronting the daytime show when an unexpected noise was heard in the background of an interview, interrupting the segment.

The presenter, 53, fronted the ITV show alongside co-host Ben Shephard, 49, this morning. They discussed a number of topics with various guests and at one point Ben Fogle, 50, was interviewed by the pair about his latest projects.

Whilst discussing his Channel 5 series New Lives in the Wild, a bang could be heard in the GMB studio, followed by what sounded like something smashing. It caught the two hosts off-guard, with them halting the interview to address it.

Susanna and Ben were seen looking towards a part of the studio that wasn't visible to viewers. The former appeared to be concerned by the situation and was heard responding to the incident: "My goodness, sorry. Is everybody okay?"

It was subsequently teased that it may have been related to Andi Peters, 53, handing out drinks earlier in the episode. Promoting a competition, he gave the two hosts smoothies that were said to contain mango, banana and peach.

Andi however said they "added a little extra" to Ben's drink to make it feel "really tasty," with teased that his included vodka. It was then noted that Ben had been doing Dry January, though he appeared to take another sip, saying: "I'm making the most of it".

Seemingly referencing the situation after the noise was heard in the studio, Ben appeared to tease: "Has that Andi Peters being toxifying coffee this morning as well?" His co-host Susanna joked in response: "That'll be the vodka."

It's unclear what actually happened in the GMB studio this morning. The ITV show's anchors Ben and Susanna continued their interview with guest Ben just moments later, and didn't mention the noise when concluding the segment.

Earlier this week, Susanna spoke about her decision to stop drinking alcohol six years ago, which she shared was not motivated by Dry January or as a New Year's Resolution. She said that it was following her doctor's advice.

She commented on Wednesday: "I gave up drinking because a doctor said 'you should try giving up drinking for the sake of your skin'. [...] It can make you look very flushed. And I was getting all sorts of breakouts as a result of drinking."

Susanna added: "If you say to someone 'you're gonna cure your skin by giving up alcohol' that's a proper motivator. And then after I'd given up, if I had just one, I would instantly see it on my face. So it was a big demotivator for drinking."

Good Morning Britains airs weekdays on ITV and ITVX from 6am. You can catch up on previous episodes through ITVX.
