Masked Singer UK's Maypole 'rumbled' as show panellist by convinced fans
The Masked Singer UK viewers think new character Maypole has already given away their true identity, and it's a star already on the show.
The ITV1 reality singing competition returned on Saturday night, with panellists Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross and Mo Gilligan back in the detective chairs with guest judge Charlie Simpson – and this year's costumes have been hailed as the best yet. Confirmed for the latest lineup were Cricket, Weather, Marypole, Bigfoot, Egg and Rat.
Also taking part are Air Fryer, Bubble Tea, Owl, Piranha, Eiffel Tower, Chicken Caesar. Once again it's the celebrity's job to disguise who they really are with as little clues given as possible.
One of the first characters and mystery celebrities to take to the stage on Saturday was Maypole, who went up against Cricket. Maypole dropped some big clues in their clue VT, before performing Never Gonna Not Dance Again by P!nk.
As their performance came to an end, it was the panel's turn to guess who they thought was under the mask. Clues included possible links to Eurovision, a possibly fake American accent and wanting to break free.
Corrie's Sue Cleaver says I'm A Celebrity stint helped her to push boundariesViewers had a good idea of who was under the costume, and took to X to share their observations. It was Masked Singer panellist Rita Ora, missing from the episode, who fans thought the star was in a major twist after the clues and performance - and even Mo thought it was her.
Taking to X, one viewer said: "Maypole sounds like Rita Ora!!" as a second said: "Lol if Maypole is Rita Ora." A third fan added: "Maypole is Rita lol," as another asked: "Is Rita Ora doing a Nick Cannon and taking part as Maypole like he did in the US version?"
Another comment read: "I fully think Maypole is Rita Ora btw." Host Joel Dommett couldn’t wait for the show to start and previously said: "Honestly, they are the best costumes ever. If they don’t make you smile, well, get out! Air Fryer is unbelievably silly. It's so liberating to be a part of a show where first of all, people really enjoy it and also from my point of view, any idea I have, it's fair game. Even when it comes to the suits!
"I think we've definitely got some of the best vocalists we've ever had on the show and we've had some really incredible ones in the past. The show goes through an interesting meandering of, we are all here for all the new characters, but then maybe the better singers start to get through in the last rounds, usually the final. Let's be honest, it’s usually really incredible singers left at that point. This year I really do feel like we've got some of the best we've ever had."
Talking about the costumes, Jonathan Ross said: "I love all of them. I really loved Weather. I thought that was a really beautiful, quite romantic, quite poetic looking costume. I liked Piranha a lot. They're fun, I have to say. Bubble Tea is great. Well, Bubble Tea and Air Fryer make the show very, very modern, don't they? There's a couple of phrases that weren't in common conversation two or three years ago, and now we've got them dancing on primetime ITV1!"
