Shannen Doherty has expressed gratitude at being able to spend Christmas with loved ones following a "turbulent," which has included her undergoing treatment for cancer.

The actor, 52, reflected on the year in a festive episode of her podcast Let's Be Clear with Shannen Doherty, which was released on Christmas Day. She fronted the special episode but was joined by her mother Rosa Doherty in it.

The pair spoke about the annual holiday and shared that they would be spending it with family in California. Shannen - best known for her roles in shows like Beverly Hills, 90210 and Charmed - also said that it's her "favourite holiday".

Sharing her thoughts in the episode, Shannen said at one point: "For me, personally, I'm just so thankful to be here another Christmas." She then went on to further express gratitude and subsequently reflected on the last year.

She commented on the newly-launched podcast: "This year is about just being incredibly grateful that we're here and that we get to spend time with the people that are by y'know our sides through thick and thin, that don't walk away, that love us unconditionally, and have the same sort of beliefs and morals and standards and people that have character. I'm just so thankful really to be here for it."

Shannen suggested that she had more cancer treatment in the lead up to the holiday season. She commented: "I even got to schedule my like cancer infusions where I would be recovered completely from it for Christmas, which is great."

The podcast host went on to reflect over the year, seemingly referencing her experience with cancer and having reportedly separated from her husband Kurt Iswarienko, whom she married in 2011, earlier this year. She said: "Reflecting for me, it's been a turbulent year. Y'know some massive health struggles, some massive personal struggles. A lot of y'know heartbreak and fear."

The actor suggested she now feels like she's "starting to live the happiest version" of her life though. She commented on the latest episode of her podcast: "Even though it's been such a contentious year for me, for some reason it just feels it's gotten a lot lighter lately and a lot more positive."

Shannen first shared that she had breast cancer in 2015, though was later said to have gone into remission. It was however announced in 2019 that it had returned, with her said to have been diagnosed with stage four breast cancer.

Earlier this year, she shared that it had spread to her brain and it was revealed that she had her first round of radiation in January. Additionally, Shannen is said to have undergone surgery "to remove [a tumour in her head] and also biopsy".
