A massive explosion that ripped apart a block of flats has left a woman in hospital after she miraculously survived the blast.

The woman, who it has been reported was preparing to go on holiday to Australia, was found by firefighters and handed over to paramedics who took her to hospital suffering from burns and shock but her current condition is unknown. Two other residents were evacuated due to the catastrophic damage to the block.

Pictures from the scene show that the whole of the exterior wall of the flat in the middle of a three-storey block in East London is blown out on both sides of the building and there is windows, brickwork, and a Christmas tree among the debris in the gardens below.

According to MyLondon, around 15 firefighters and at least three fire engines rushed to the scene at around 2.30am on Well Street in Hackney and have said they suspect that a boiler was the cause of the explosion. A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters were called to a collapsed building on Well Street in Hackney at 2.32am this morning.

"Firefighters attended a three-storey block of flats where an explosion, suspected to have been caused by a boiler, had caused damage to the front and rear of a flat on the first floor. One woman was rescued by firefighters from the property suffering from burns and shock, she was treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service crews and taken to hospital. Two other residents were evacuated from the building."

This incident is not the only drama Hackney has seen in the last couple of weeks after a mother and son were rushed to hospital after being forced to jump from windows to escape an e-bike battery fire. Most of the three-storey home was destroyed by the blaze. The mother was seriously injured after jumping from the second floor and her adult son, who leapt from the first floor, suffered an unspecified injury. They were forced to escape out of windows because the e-bike that had caught fire was at the bottom of a staircase leading to the ground floor, blocking their exit route.

And it comes less than a week after a huge gas explosion destroyed a terrace house in Blackburn. Two people were rushed to hospital and shocking video footage showed the walls and roof of the house crumbling around a passerby. The man was rushed to Royal Preston Hospital to receive treatments for injuries which are not believed to be life threatening, Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council said. A second man was also taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital with minor injuries.
