'Boyfriend used a nude sauna with his female cousin - he doesn't see the issue'

Saunas are a great way to lay back and kick off some steam (or sweat).

Across the world, saunas are hailed as a relaxing environment that come with a slew of health benefits - including reducing pain and loosening stiff joints. Depending on which country you are in, you may have to enjoy your sauna experience in the nude.

This is mainly due to hygiene reasons so people aren't sweating into their swimsuit or trunks - but it is also rooted in tradition in countries such as Germany. However, when one woman was left fuming after discovering her boyfriend had enjoyed a naked sauna with his female cousin.

Taking to Reddit, the 30-year-old boyfriend explained how he had recently gone on holiday with a few friends and his cousins. On several evenings, the group made use out of the hotel's facilities and went to the sauna.

After returning home from the trip, he mentioned the sauna to his 28-year-old girlfirend who instantly became 'irritated'. "She thinks it's weird of me to go to the sauna with other females when she's not around," the post reads.

'I don't want children staying up late at weekends - I really need adult time'

"She said that she doesn't think I should see other women naked. It appeared that she was specifically grossed out by me being naked in the same room as my female cousin."

The man went on to explained that they're both from Germany, which nude saunas are common and 'normal'. Gender-specific saunas in the country do exist, but as the group was mixed, they chose to go to a unisex one.

"She said she thinks it's weird not to want to avoid seeing your family members naked," he added. "She said at this age she hasn't seen any of her male cousins or brothers naked and would find it uncomfortable to see their private parts. That's why she was weirded out by my cousin being there."

The man defended his actions, arguing that he wouldn't be annoyed if she chose to go to a nude sauna with her male friends. He says they have both attended a nude sauna in the past where they joined two of his male friends and two of her female friends.

Hundreds of people took to the comments section to give their thoughts - with many siding with the boyfriend. "It's creepy that she sexualizes it, but also even if it wasn't family, if she doesn't trust you then that's her problem and she should look into how to deal with that," one user commented.

Another added: "A sauna is not a sexual experience, everyone is just relaxing and sweating. Also bodies are just bodies. There's generally nothing weird about being naked around others in this context."

However, many people - especially those from countries were nudity isn't as common - disagreed with the man's actions. "I am British and I would hate it if my boyfriend did this," one person wrote.

A second agreed, saying: "For a large number of us, the only time we see nudity is during sexual activity, which makes it extremely difficult for us to separate the two."
