Arsenal are in a fantastic position across the board, riding high at the top of the Premier League and into the last 16 of the Champions League.

Mikel Arteta has managed to continue the momentum from last season and has his side a point ahead of Liverpool – and five clear of defending champions Manchester City – following the 2-0 win over Brighton on Sunday. But despite the solid start to the campaign, the Gunners are still pondering their options in the January transfer window, which is fast approaching.

Arsenal are known to be looking for a new centre-forward who is capable of providing back-up to Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah, with Ivan Toney their top target. But the price of a mid-season addition up front may prove preventative and force them to focus on other positions. With that in mind, here is the latest Arsenal transfer news.

Onana tops midfield wishlist

Arsenal are planning for life without Thomas Partey, whose injury problems have forced a re-think in central midfield. Partey still has 18 months left on his Arsenal contract, but has been perennially injured of late.

The Daily Mail report that Arsenal are planning for life without him and have identified a few potential replacements. They include Aston Villa midfielders Douglas Luiz and Jacob Ramsey, Fulham ’s Joao Palhinha and Everton ’s Amadou Onana.

With Luiz and Ramsey doing well at Villa and Palhinha wanted by Bayern Munich – and out of Arsenal’s age bracket at 28 – Onana is considered the most likely target. The 22-year-old has impressed since joining Everton from Lille for £33million in August 2022 and has also caught the attention of Manchester United.

Six clubs chasing defender

The January transfer window isn’t just about incomings – it also offers Arsenal the chance to offload unwanted players, or push back interest in players they do want. It remains to be seen which category Jakub Kiwior falls into.

Calciomercato says that the Polish international is attracting a lot of attention ahead of January, with AC Milan, Roma, Napoli, Lazio, Nice and Brentford all contacting Arsenal over Kiwior. The 23-year-old is behind Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba in the pecking order and has started just three Premier League games this season.

Nevertheless, the report states that Arsenal have no interest in letting him go out on loan for the remainder of the campaign. Arteta views him as a useful back-up option, given he can also fill in at left-back.

Gunners lose race for Brazil star

United are one of the Premier League clubs who have been keeping an eye on Fluminense star Andre, but it seems a rival has moved ahead in the race to sign him. talkSPORT says that Fulham have an agreement in principle to sign the 22-year-old midfielder for a fee in excess of £20m.

Fulham are waiting to see what happens with Palhinha, who came close to joining Bayern in the summer. But it seems the ship has sailed for United, as well as Arsenal and Liverpool.

Andre helped Fluminense win the Copa Libertadores this year and could face Manchester City in the Club World Cup final on Friday. Despite his age, he has already made 169 appearances for Fluminense, contributing four goals and three assists.
