A lifelong Manchester United fan who splashed out £450 for a VIP experience at Old Trafford has slammed the 'disgraceful' meal he was served.

The disappointed supporter told the Manchester Evening News that he was served food that 'looked like dog meat on curry' and that the experience was 'very very poor and unacceptable,' adding he 'came home feeling worse'.

"It was a disgrace to be fair," he told the MEN. "Not at all what I was expecting. For a premium price and a once in a lifetime experience it's very very poor and unacceptable."

Despite the 'Evolution Suite experience' promising a 'three course a-la-carte meal', the fan was shocked by the standard given the hefty price tag. He added that £450 is 'a fair chunk' this close to Christmas. However, he did note that he could enjoy unlimited free Heineken and vodka red bulls, stating he'd need to have 'a good few drinks' to get his money's worth.

Just this month, in a separate incident, United were forced to trigger an internal investigation after claims a number of people were served raw chicken at an event staged at the stadium. The Athletic reported that the club received multiple complaints after feelings unwell in the days following the event.

United currently have a food hygiene rating of 'Very Good' from the Food Standards Agency (FSA), a government department responsible for food safety and hygiene.

They carry out inspections of businesses that serve food and United were last inspected on October 23, although the FSA has yet to publish their new rating.

The standards at Old Trafford have been under intense scrutiny in recent months, with the much-maligned owners Glazers accused of failing to invest in the infrastructure. United legend Gary Neville was furious after the Red Devils were overlooked as a venue for the European Championship in 2028.

"The Glazer family have, for years, been warned about a lack of investment in Old Trafford," Neville said. "They have overseen a decline for 20 years in which it has gone from being one of the best stadiums in the world to one that can't even get into the top 10 in the UK and Ireland. This is an all-time low.

"That it is not in the best ten to host a tournament is a joke. There has been no investment. It is a rusty stadium. This is a dereliction of duty. It is shameful."

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is set to complete a deal which will see him acquire 25 per cent of the club for an outlay of £1.4billion. He is due to take over the footballing operations at the club, although it remains to be seen how much sway he will have in the overall running.
