Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana insists he felt "nothing" while up against the famous Anfield atmosphere during the Red Devils' dull 0-0 draw with Liverpool.

Onana, 27, was part of a resilient United side who earned a hard-fought point against arch enemies Liverpool on Sunday, with the goalkeeper making a number of interventions to deny Mohamed Salah and co. It was Onana's second trip to Anfield, although his first - a Champions League group phase fixture - came behind closed doors while playing for Ajax during the pandemic.

Post-match, the Cameroon international - who became the first goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet against Liverpool since April - was asked by MUTV about dealing with the Anfield crowd and he replied: "I felt nothing. At Manchester United you're going to get that, I have to be ready for everything.

"I'm used to be playing big games with high intensity. Like I said, it was nice to play here today. We played a good opponent but we showed we have good players. Being Manchester United you must try to win."

The 27-year-old's comments came after former United captain Gary Neville criticised the lack of noise inside Anfield, despite Liverpool welcoming their largest attendance for more than 60 years. That's because the club were able to partially open their extended Anfield Road End stand for the first time since an £80million investment was made to increase their overall capacity.

Neville remarked on commentary for Sky Sports during the game: "I have to say, this is by far the worst atmosphere I've ever seen at Anfield for a Manchester United game. It's really, really quiet so far, other than the first five minutes where they were up for it."

The former defender then added after the final whistle: "The atmosphere was the worst I've seen at Anfield ever for a Liverpool-Manchester United game. I've always been complimentary of Liverpool fans but it's the quietest crowd I've seen in this game.

"I think there was maybe a little bit of overconfidence before the game, with people wearing Christmas jumpers with 7-0 on them and stuff like that!" Neville added in a reference to punditry pal Jamie Carragher's new jumper which was made especially for Sunday's match to commemorate Liverpool's historic win last season.
