Whilst air fryers have become increasingly popular over the years, they are not easy to clean - however, this 5p trick might be just what you've been looking for.

Grease can accumulate over time in your air fryer and depending on how often you are using it - and let's be real nobody is cleaning their appliance after every single use. Not only will the grease accumulate but the food that has dropped down into the basket over time can too.

The longer this is left the harder it is to clean. However, fans of online cleaning sensation Mrs Hinch fans weren't phased at all when someone asked for help.

Posting to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning tips group on Facebook, someone asked: "My air fryer is so dirty. I use liners for some items but often just shove the food in there to cook. I've tried washing up liquid but it hasn't worked, does anyone recommend anything else?”

The woman wasn't left disappointed, as there were more than 30 comments from cleaning enthusiasts. While many offered different suggestions, the most common answer was using dishwasher tablets.

One Facebook user shared: "I soaked mine overnight with hot water and a dishwasher tablet. Then gave it a good scrub after using Elbow Grease. Mine is a glass one, it's ideal."

Meanwhile, another commented: "While you think soaking should work, it often doesn't, you need to take it up a notch and use something like a dishwasher tablet. Using a dishwasher tablet with some hot water works wonders to remove grease and grime."

A third added: "Dishwasher tablets are great to get rid of grease, I use them to clean pots and pans as well as stained dishes."

Brits should make sure they are using the hard dishwasher tablets, rather than the pods for this trick. Dishwasher tablets can be picked up from at 4.5p each. Lidl also sells dishwasher tablets at , working out to cost around 8p each.

All you need to do is plop the air fryer basket along with a dishwasher tablet into hot water and then let it soak for 10 minutes. You can lightly scrub stubborn areas under clean water but you won’t necessarily need to if you let the basket soak in hot water long enough.
