Man cheats death as car plunges 40ft after smashing through car park barrier

A Russian driver had a miraculous escape after his Volkswagen Touareg plunged 40ft from a multi-storey car park.

He was driving the SUV when it smashed through a flimsy barrier and fell to the road below. A video caught the moment of the dramatic fall. The VW did a corkscrew spin on the way down, with the front taking the full force of the strike with the ground. It then righted itself on all four wheels. The lucky driver - named as Evgeny Shamko, 40 - suffered no more than shock, said reports.

A witness said: “The ambulance came but did not pick him up. He was not injured.” He was seen giving a statement to officers in a police car. A check was being done for alcohol in the blood after a bottle was found in the crashed Volkswagen Touareg, said reports.

Earlier this year, a woman working on her car outside her home miraculously cheated death after another motor ploughed into her and flung her into the air. ‌ The victim had the bonnet up on her silver hatchback and didn’t see the other car approaching.

A dark coloured saloon left the road and somehow got through a narrow gap behind a bus stop to hit her from the side. The car enthusiast was thrown five metres along the pavement. The car then ploughed through a fence before hitting another parked car on its driveway.

Two stunned onlookers waiting at the bus stop just metres from the crash quickly ran over to check everyone was okay. One person in the car went to check if the woman was okay as other pedestrians stopped to help. But two other men in the car got out and walked away before the horrifying 44-second CCTV clip ends. The woman was taken to hospital by ambulance but her condition is not life threatening.
