Cheerleader, 16, found dead in flat by traumatised mum 'murdered in cold blood'
A cheerleader was found dead in her Texas by her mum who said she was murdered, before an investigation was launched.
Just 16 years old, Lizbeth Medina, was found dead in the small town of Edna, by her mother, Jacquelin Medina who said it was “the most horrible way a mother could find her child” adding that her daughter was “murdered in cold blood.”
Jacquelin told KHOU that the alarm was raised when Lizbeth failed to show up for her cheer squad’s Christmas parade. Police arrived at the Edna apartment at 6.57 pm on Tuesday, later declaring that “Upon arrival, officers believed the juvenile to be deceased,” in a press release. The exact cause of her death is currently unknown.

Lizbeth was a cheerleader (Facebook)Jacquelin added that she “lost it” when she first saw her daughter’s body. She said: “Someone dared to go in and just rip my daughter away from me, it just kills me. I just want answers to why they would do this to an amazing little girl who would never hurt anyone, wouldn't dare to hurt anyone.” Emergency services had arrived and attempted to save Lizbeth’s life but were unable to. One Facebook post also stated that Lizbeth was “'brutally murdered in her own home.”

Edna police, the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Ranger Division have all launched inquiries investigating what led to the teenager being found dead in her family home.

One person said: “She was a beautiful and talented girl full of life & many dreams.” Her mother also posted saying: “My baby, you didn't deserve to be taken from me this way... you had amazing plans for your future. Such an amazing girl. I love you mija....”
A friend of Lizbeth’s posted a heartfelt message that read: “The loss of a friend like you is something that can never be recovered. You have always been an important part of our life. Words cannot describe what I am feeling. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the people you left behind. Rest in peace gorgeous we love you so much.”
She was found in the small town of Edna, outside of Houston (Facebook)Lizbeth’s bereaved loved ones have also created the hashtag #JusticeforLiz along with an image of a purple ribbon, which people have also used as a profile picture to honour the teen. This Saturday a vigil will be held for Lizbeth’s grieving friends and family and attendees will wear shirts, made for the occasion. To fund the funeral the shirts will then be sold to pay for the funeral expenses.
In the state of Texas capital murder is a felony that could see perpetrators spend their lives in prison, occasionally the death sentence is also imposed for those found to be guilty of murder.
