Janette Manrara was abruptly shut down on Loose Women when trying to defend her approach to motherhood while appearing on the show alongside husband Aljaz Skorjanec.

The 40-year-old Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two host and her 33-year-old professional dancer husband Aljaz were guests on the ITV daytime talk show on Thursday where they opened up about the recent arrival of their daughter, Lyra - who was born at the end of July. The couple - who first got together in 2010 and tied-the-knot back in 2017 - were guests on the show and met panelists Kay Adams, 60, Love Island star Olivia Attwood, 32, Birds of a Feather icon Linda Robson, 65, and 59-year-old Nadia Sawalha.

While featuring on the show, Janette and Aljaz opened up about their long journey towards parenthood. As Janette was in her late 30s when they started trying for a baby, the couple feared they would struggle to conceive.

They then began an IVF journey - but Janette explained that her period failed to arrive when she was taking IVF hormones. Ultimately, the couple managed to conceive naturally, and they were thrilled when their baby arrived this year.

Janette came under fire from some mum-shamers, however, when she made the choice to return to Strictly companion show It Takes Two just weeks after her baby arrived. And the dance expert wanted to hit back at her critics while appearing on Loose Women.

Unfortunately for Janette, this was an opportunity that was snatched away as Kay bluntly shut down her conversation when she raised the topic. Viewers saw Janette say: “There has been a lot of backlash towards me going back to work.”

But then Kay interrupted and said: “Listen, we are out of time. But apart from that I think it’s a beautiful place to end. You enjoy your daughter the way you want.” Janette accepted her words and gasped: “Exactly! Thank you!”

Moments before, Aljaz had explained he had taken 10 years to convince Janette to start a family with him. He said they were both delighted to be sharing their parenting journey together. While Janette has continued her work on Strictly as a host of companion show It Takes Two, Aljaz has stepped away from the series - having been a professional on Strictly from 2013 until 2021 - which he said has been a bonus for their child making plans.

He explained: “I always wanted to be a dad. I knew it’s never the right time and it had to be the right time for both of us. Our work life is so up and down. Sometimes you are away for months at a time so we had to make a concerted decision ‘Now is the time to be parents’.

“I think it’s perfect now because I could step back a little bit and be a hands on dad. And I love it. I have newfound respect for anyone who stays at home - it’s a 24/7 attention thing! I applaud you. But I love her.”
