Heartbreak as world famous train station cat Felix dies 'peacefully'

A famous cat who became a public hit after frequenting at a busy UK train station and even featured in two bestselling books has sadly passed away.

Famous Huddersfield train station cat Felix has sadly crossed the Rainbow Bridge, Yorkshire Live reports, with a spokesperson saying she died peacefully on Sunday after an illness. Since 2011, felines Felix and Bolt - who had been included in the Sunday times Bestsellers list - had been Huddersfield Station's senior pest controllers, but today it has been revealed that Felix sadly died on Sunday evening.

On Facebook, a tribute was posted by station manager Angie Hunte, which stated: "It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Felix. On Sunday evening, she peacefully went to sleep, in the loving comfort of Angie Hunte (Station Manager) and Jacqui Cox (Station Team Leader).

"Felix joined TPE in 2011 and since then has left paw prints across the hearts of people from all over the world. We will miss her dearly. We please ask that if people would like to leave their words of sympathy they comment on this page and refrain from visiting the station.

"A fitting tribute and memorial for Felix will be organised in due course and the station team need time to process and grieve this deep loss. There is NO official fundraiser for Felix, we instead ask that you consider purchasing the 2024 Felix and Bolt calendar (LINK) or donating to an animal charity directly in her name.

"Please note that any links to fundraiser will be removed and members banned as we cannot guarantee where this money would go. Thank you for all the memories Felix. Sleep peacefully."

Plenty of people have paid tribute to Felix, like Juliana Glanfield. She wrote: "Oh my, that is so very sad, thinking of you all and Bolty Boy, she will be so missed, sending love and hugs xx".

Rosemary Berry added: "This is heartbreaking news. My deepest condolences to Angie and all who loved Felix. I had the privilege of meeting her once, she was an absolute darling. So very sorry to hear this sad news. Xx"

Martin Hutchinson said: "This is so sad, Felix has given me and many other people so much joy, my condolences to all at Huddersfield Station and to Bolt, her memory will live on".

Ms Hunte said: “Her presence brought smiles to visitors from around the world, making Huddersfield Station a special place.” She said she understood that "many people will want to honour Felix’s memory" and urged them to donate to charity in tribute to her.
