Ashley Cain shares 'pain' of telling ex Safiyya he's having another baby

Ashely Cain says telling his ex Safiyya Vorajee that he was going to become a dad again was 'painful' for them both.

The couple split up at the start of 2022, the sad news coming a year after they went through the heartbreak of losing their baby girl Azaylia to cancer when she was just eight months old. They are both still dealing with their daughter's tragic death, which made Ashley's announcement even more difficult.

He went to the resting place of Azaylia, who bravely battled against a rare form of leukaemia, to “talk to her about it” - before sitting her mum down to explain what was going on. Ashley and Safiyya supported each other throughout their hardest times before they announced that they were calling it a day weeks before the one year anniversary of their daughter's passing.

The 33-year-old semi professional footballer says it was very hard for her to hear - and for him to explain to his ex - but given their close relationship. But Ashley says that it was important to sit down together and to do things right when it came to letting her know about the pregnancy.

He told The Sun: “It was painful for Safiyya but it was also painful for me as well to talk to her. We haven’t been together for a while now and it is inevitable that at some stage people are going to move on with their lives - that doesn’t mean that we can’t be friends and have an amazing relationship.

“I know Safiyya will always support me and I will always be there to support Safiyya. It wasn’t an easy conversation or filled with smiles but it was a conversation that had a lot of truth and respect.” He said after telling Azaylia that he was going to be a dad again that he has a 'feeling in my heart and in my soul' that his little girl was happy for him.

Ashley confirmed that he will be having a little boy, with Azaylia "happy" that she will have a little brother to watch over and "protect". But the star revealed he is not in a relationship with the mother of his unborn son, but says they have been friends since the age of 18.

Ashley and Safiyya announced the news of their split on on his Instagram story: "After a devastating and heartbreaking year, Safiyya and I decided to separate a few months ago. This was an incredibly tough decision which we needed to keep to ourselves for some time to give us the opportunity to figure out our own journey privately.

Although he's now over the moon to know he'll have a baby son, he and his female friend were left devastated when they were informed their baby has a possible heart defect. The Ex On The Beach star says that the former couple have an "amazing relationship" and that his ex-girlfriend Safiyaa will support him.

Speaking previously to The Mirror, Ashley revealed that Azaylia "saved his life". He told us: "The reason also why I still talk about her passing is because I am so grateful that even though now I have lost her, I was blessed to have those eight months with her, and in that time, she taught me so much. She changed my life and she continually saves my life. I feel like she gave me a chance at redemption and that she is the person who allowed me to be organically and authentically who I am."
