Strictly's Amy Dowden rushed to hospital in 'never-ending' health blow

Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden was rushed to hospital only three weeks after finishing her chemotherapy treatment.

The 33-year-old was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year while living with Crohn's Disease. She underwent a mastectomy a month after her diagnosis but was subsequently told she would need to undergo chemotherapy after doctors had found cancer elsewhere in her body. Amy was recently rushed to hospital after developing an infection and going into septic shock, following a round of chemotherapy.

She was taken to hospital on Monday with a blood clot on the lung. Opening up about the hospital dash, Amy added: "Unfortunately I've had another nightmare this week. Just seems to be never-ending... they were really worried that the clot was travelling to my heart or affecting my heart. Lucky enough, it's not."

"Just been really frustrated," she continued. "I had lots planned this week, voice-overs, just getting my life back and it just seems to be, like with my foot, as soon as I get it back something comes... You get into your head once you finish chemo that's it, but you learn it really isn't..."

She added: "Hopefully now, that's it. I think I've had enough."

It comes after the professional dancer opened up about her diagnosis after sharing her journey with fans on social media, admitting she doesn't think she will ever "accept it". Amy explained: "I never asked [for] this to happen to me. I've always worked so hard. I've always been a good person."

Speaking in the December issue of Women's Health UK, which is on sale now, she added: "I looked after myself, I've exercised well, haven't smoked...I do get angry. I just think I've been dealt a difficult one…I think it'll take a while to accept. It took me a long time to accept my Crohn's. Until I'm back dancing and back to my normal self, I don't think I will accept it."

Amy thanked her Strictly co-stars for their support, revealing Dianne Buswell checks in with her every single day and saying that watching this year's show has been "a great help". She says: "Production have gone above and beyond to make me part of the series as well. To have no part in it would have been soul-destroying. And not good for me mentally, whatsoever. I don't know what I would have done, I'll be honest with you."

But she is not seeking pity from others. "I just want to be treated as normal," Amy admitted. "When I’m walking outside and I’ve got my headscarf on, I don’t want looks of sympathy. Just ask how I am – I will answer you."

Her revelations come after Amy shared another health update. Earlier this month, the brave star completed her chemotherapy journey but was dealt a new blow. The ballroom and Latin dancer was scheduled to return to Strictly for the iconic Blackpool special on Saturday after missing out on dancing in this series.

Amy has delighted Strictly viewers with occasional appearances on the programme. However, in a photo shared on Instagram this week, Amy appeared to be holding back in tears as she explained why she won't be able to make the Blackpool Tower, where the celebrities and their dance partners headed to perform on Saturday, as she fractured her foot.
