I'm A Celeb's Sam Thompson is very different at home, says Zara McDermott
Sam Thompson's girlfriend Zara McDermott has praised her partner for bringing the fun to I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here- but also said living with him and his ADHD means he is not always the hyper and happy guy you see in camp.
Although he has been seen on screen as the life and soul of the jungle, Made In Chelsea star Sam is not always like that at home. Asked about the dynamic of their relationship, Zara, 26, said: "I think it's different to what people expect it to be! He's definitely more hyperactive and energetic around groups of people/new people, whereas I'm more reserved. "
She added: "But when he's comfortable around you he mellows out a lot more and he is more calm. Anyone who has or knows anyone who has ADHD will know that it's impossible to maintain such a high all the time. When he's at home he's often recharging his batteries because he does get quite exhausted by himself. Bless him. So when it's just us, I'm usually the one wanting to go out and do a million things. I'm the one that wants to be on the go doing things all the time and he does like his downtime at home. He's a real homebody and I'm a typical Sagittarius."
Zara continued: "Sam knows he's got a lot of energy and can be full on to people sometimes. But I think that's why so many people warm to him. It seems to me that everyone has warmed to him in camp. I think it would be a very different camp without him there. He has created more fun and excitement for everyone."
Former Love Island star Zara, who is now a TV host, also was asked by her fans on her Instagram about a poisonous snake being removed from near Sam's bed in camp. She revealed it wasn't the first time he had a close encounter with a snake. She said: "This is a funny question because when we went on safari, Sam wouldn't stop asking the safari guides about snakes. He's got a weird obsession with them."
TOWIE's Chloe Brockett makes cheeky dig at Saffron Lempriere during filmingShe added: "He actually nearly got bitten by a snake when he was on holiday with his family in South Africa. And his dad managed to push him out of the way just in time. I think it was a black mamba but I maybe wrong. So after that near fated experience, he's always had a weird obsession but also fear of them."
Zara also explained why she is not going out to Australia, even though Sam is favourite to become king of the jungle with bookmakers. Sam's friend Pete Wicks is there instead. She said: "In all seriousness, Sam thought I was still going to be in Strictly bless him, so Pete cleared his whole diary for two to three weeks to be there. I also have had to rush back to work as soon as Strictly finished to finish two of my documentaries before Christmas, which I am currently abroad filming now."
She went on to say: "And we also have training for our final Strictly number. So it was a bit impossible to clear everything. But Sam was so excited by the idea of Pete being there anyway, he was happy for me to be waiting for him back at base. I'm obviously a bit sad not to be there though. But I am throwing a huge party for all family and friends on the final night. Keeping fingers crossed, he's in it. So I'm in charge of hosting everyone at home."
