GMB viewers fume over 'hypocritical' Jo Brand climate change segment

Good Morning Britain viewers were quick to spot the irony in one of the show's segments today as the ITV programme attempted to educate people on the dangers of climate change.

Those tuned in this morning watched as comedian Jo Brand spoke to hosts Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley about partnering up with campaign group Climate Science Breakthrough to hilariously translate science-y messages about the negative impacts of climate change.

Professor Mark Maslin explains the impacts of climate change with a little help from Jo in a new video by Climate Science Breakthrough, who use comedians to help climate scientists to communicate to millions of people and hopefully move them to action. In the video, Jo jokes: "If people like me have to get involved, you know we're in deep sh**!"

But it wasn't Jo and Mark's new campaign that got ITV viewers talking on social media this morning, thanks to an earlier segment involving Andi Peters.

"@GMB 'We're in a climate catastrophe'. Andi Peters is in Copenhagen selling this week's gambling competition. What is Andi Peters' carbon footprint, and why does he have to fly anywhere? Green screens have been around for a while. Hypocrisy much? #GMB #ClimateCrisis," one unimpressed viewer told Good Morning Britain's official Twitter (X) account following the segment airing.

"Talking about climate change on a show that flies andy Peters all around the world for a 10min competition and dickie goes to Australia to tell us what we already seen in the show !!!!", [sic] fumed another, with a third raging: "Unbelievable... Jo Brand a "comedian" on ITV talking about climate change, when ITV let most of their presenters travel around the world to promote their fake competitions #gmb."

"#gmb excellent. An article on climate crisis. Next link will probably be Andi Peters’ vital trip to Copenhagen for his competition," read another angry tweet, with one viewer seething: "Jo Brand speaks up on global warming whilst we just flew Andi Peters and the team to Copenhagen to tell us how much money we can win this week."

Andi was chatting to presenters Susanna and Richard via video link from Copenhagen, Denmark several times during today's edition of Good Morning Britain to promote one of ITV's competition. The broadcaster is offering viewers the chance to win £90,000 cash in time for Christmas and other prizes, with people able to enter online or over the phone.

*Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV and ITVX from 6am.
