Coleen Rooney has paid tribute to her late sister Rosie, uploading a sweet video of the pair to social media on what would have been her 24th birthday.

The wife of Wayne Rooney, 36, shared the clip which featured herself and her younger sister playing together, before she gave Rosie a kiss.

She captioned the Instagram video: “Happy Birthday Rosie. Love you”.

Rosie, who suffered from Rett syndrome for the entirety of her life, passed away in 2013 when she was 14 years old.

Rhett syndrome is a rare brain disorder, which causes severe disabilities.

Coleen’s followers left many heartfelt messages in the comment section of the post.

It was only last month that Coleen marked the ten-year anniversary of Rosie’s passing, sharing a family photo to Instagram, with Rosie cuddling her mother.

Coleen wrote: “10 years today……We all love and miss you Rosie Mc”.

Rosie was adopted by Coleen’s parents, Tony and Colette, after they initially fostered her at two years of age.

While the family knew Rosie was disabled, they did not know the full extent of her condition.

Speaking to The Mail on Sunday in 2006, Coleen said that when Rosie arrived, she could crawl, but the use of her hands was limited.

She said: "But over a period of time she stopped crawling and lost what use of her hands she had. Then she started having problems swallowing her food.

"It took pretty much a year for Rosie to be diagnosed and, looking back, I can see how much Mum pushed to find out what was wrong with her and to try to do what was best for her."

Tony and Colette released a statement shortly after Rosie’s death, in which they spoke of how much happiness she brought to “everyone she knew and met her”.

They said: “Sadly our special angel Rosie, our much-loved daughter and sister, went to Heaven at 2.50 this morning at home where she was surrounded by her loving family.

“She was such a strong little girl and an inspiration to us all. We shall cherish for ever the memories we have shared and the love she showed us each and every day of her life.

"As a family we are heartbroken but we are blessed to have had her in our lives.”
