Woman accused of biting husband's ear off during heated argument at family home
A woman has been accused of biting off part of her husband's right ear during an argument in India, forcing him to undergo surgery.
The unnamed 45-year-old man has filed a complaint to police in Delhi, alleging his wife dismembered the upper portion of his ear by biting it off. He had to undergo surgery last week which is when the incident came to light, as hospital staff thought they should inform police. The man told police his wife wanted him to sell the house and give her a share so she could live separately with her children. As he was leaving the house, she grabbed him from behind and gnawed on his ear with such force that it became dismembered.
He said: "I went to throw garbage outside my house around 9.20am on November 20. I asked my wife to clean the house. Soon after I returned home, my wife started fighting with me over an unknown issue. I tried to make her understand but a verbal spat ensued. She even tried to hit me but I pushed her away. I was walking out of the house when she held me from behind and bit my right ear so hard that the upper portion of my ear got dismembered."
Police have now filed a case against the woman on charges of voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means under the Indian Penal Code. The investigation is continuing.
In July, a 50-year-old woman was arrested in India for allegedly murdering her husband with an axe, chopping his body into parts and dumping them into a river. Police say the murder took place in the Gajraula area and she said she killed him in order to put an end to the domestic violence he subjected her to. According to the National Family Health Survey between 2019 and 2021, "29.3% of married Indian women between the ages of 18 and 49 have experienced domestic/sexual violence".
