Former I'm A Celebrity contestant Samantha Fox has offered her thoughts on Nella Rose's high-profile conflict with Fred Sirieix.

The English model and singer starred on the ITV reality series in 2009, only to be eliminated third after EastEnders star Lucy Benjamin and interior designer Colin McAllister. Sam, 57, has now weighed in on the controversy over YouTube star Nella's disagreement with campmate Fred on Tuesday's episode.

Things got tense when the First Dates icon accidentally offended the 26-year-old by saying he was 'old enough to be her dad', after she'd told him her father had died during the Covid-19 pandemic. In the Bush Telegraph, Nella revealed she was annoyed by the comment and had since decided, "This is not the kind of person I want to be around." She then accused Fred of being disrespectful, and despite accepting his apology, she told him she did not wish to continue their friendship.

The altercation led to quite the frenzy online, with some viewers siding with the Frenchman in the dispute – however, others backed Nella and explained her upset came from grief. Samantha has now joined the de bate, admitting she doesn't support Nella's reasons for begrudging Fred after his apology.

"I don't like the game she's playing," she told stocklytics.com. "She seems a bit of a bully, and I don't like bullies. I thought she was bang out of order throughout that whole argument with Fred, when he mentioned 'being old enough to be her dad', right from the beginning. I would have come in there and said, 'it's a figure of speech, don't be over the top!'"

The Touch Me singer then claimed that Nella is "just going round and round in circles" because she wants "a lot of airtime", before expressing her shock at Fred's calm reaction to the confrontation. "I couldn't believe how cool Fred was about it and how much of a gentleman he was, but I wish he would have told her it was a figure of speech!" Samantha also said that she felt "sorry" for the Channel 4 m'aitre d'hotel, before adding that she suspects Nigel Farage is jealous of her coverage. "You could see Nigel Farage sitting on the other side of the table thinking, 'I want the airtime!'"

Drawing upon her experience in the Jungle, where she was a contestant in the 2009 series, Samantha also suggested that Nella's early outbursts will have a detrimental effect on the rest of the camp for the remainder of the series.

"Those arguments affect the camp massively," she warned. "When it's that early on, you're all supposed to support each other and you become a family early on. After two days you feel like you've known those people for a long time because you're 24/7 with each other and you've got a lot of time on your hands you talk a lot and you get to know each other very well, so for that argument with Nella and Fred to happen after a couple of days was very upsetting because it created a divide."

Samantha also claimed that Nella got "exactly what she wanted" after the fallout, reminding viewers that she had been inundated by support from her fellow contestants following the bust-up. "What happened after the argument was that she got given attention by her campmates they all came up to her and asked her, 'are you okay? Are you hungry?', which is exactly what she wanted," Samantha claimed.

She added: "If she really meant what she said about not eating Fred's food, then she could have just eaten rice and beans and stuck it out rather than being a hypocrite. You can't be a hypocrite on national TV if you really hate him that much, then don't eat his food and eat the rice and beans!""
