Asus’ entry into the handheld PC gaming market is a worthy competitor to Valve’s popular Steam Deck – and this deep discount this Black Friday 2023 makes it even more tempting.

As well as an unprecedented number of five-star game releases like Resident Evil 4, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and Pikmin 4, 2023 will also be remembered for the avalanche of handheld gaming PC devices that entered the market. It all kicked off a couple of years ago with the launch of the Steam Deck from Valve, of course, swiftly followed by the likes of the Lenovo Legion Go and the Asus ROG Ally this year. The latter is currently £100 off at Currys in aid of Black Friday 2023.

The Asus ROG Ally typically retails for £699 here in the UK, but with this Black Friday 2023 offer from Currys, players can pick it up for its lowest price yet at just £599. That might sound steep compared to the price of Valve’s gaming handheld but could be worth it when you realise that you’re not just locked into games on the Steam storefront. Being able to run Windows 11 right from the off opens up the ability to play games from Xbox Game Pass and the Epic Games Store too.

This sheer level of flexibility offered by the Asus ROG Ally is what separates it from the likes of the Steam Deck and even the Nintendo Switch. This was a primary factor in us awarding the device full marks in our review, praising the screen as well as its ability to deliver “an unprecedented handheld gaming experience”.

Allied forces

With a beautiful 7-inch LCD screen and up to 8 hours of battery life, the Asus ROG Ally is the perfect Black Friday 2023 buy for anyone who wants to enjoy high-powered PC gaming on the go. Currys is yet to be matched in this Black Friday 2023 offer, too, which sees £100 lopped off the usual RRP for the very first time. Especially when paired with next-day delivery, you can start playing all your favourite Steam, Xbox, and Epic Game Store titles instantly – for just a fractional fee compared to earlier this year.

Better yet, unlike the recent announcement of the Steam Deck OLED, there appears to be no hardware revision to the Asus ROG Ally on the horizon any time soon. That means picking one up now represents a fairly safe investment, and guarantees that you’ll be playing on the most powerful model for the next few years at least.
