Coronation Street star Paula Lane hit the headlines this week after it was announced that she is set to join Emmerdale.

Paula starred in ITV's Coronation Street as Kylie Platt from 2010 until her character's untimely death in 2016. Her character died in husband David’s arms after being stabbed by evil Clayton, who in a bizarre twist would become David's step son.

Before her character was written off the soap, Paula decided to leave the cobbles to go on maternity leave ahead of the birth of her second child - and announced she would not be returning as Kylie. At the time, Paula revealed she wanted a complete break from acting to focus on being a mum to her beloved kids.

"I think it’s got to be a clean break, I don’t think I’m going to take anything," she told OK! Magazine. "I have to put Kylie in a box, literally. I think that’s the healthiest option."

However, after taking a substantial lengthy break from acting, Paula is back on our screens, but this time, she'll be acting out the drama on ITV's Emmerdale instead of Coronation Street.

Paula now lives in Yorkshire with her husband Tom Shaw, who she married in 2014 and the pair share two children together, Arthur and Penny. Despite leaving the cobbles to concentrate on being a mum, back in 2021 Paula posted a gushing tribute to the soap on the 60th anniversary of the first episode airing.

At the time, she shared a picture of herself as Kylie while on the set of Corrie and alongside it, she wrote: “Happy 60th Coronation Street. Forever thankful for 6 wonderful years in the best company and for everything I learnt there. So proud to have walked and died on those cobbles! Go team xx”

After leaving Coronation Street and dedicating her time to her family, Paula was eager to pursue other roles outside of Weatherfield. Since then, Paula has played the part of Vera Sands in Call the Midwife and Emily Harris in Father Brown. She has also appeared in a number of plays, including Be More Martyn at Southwark Playhouse, The Bengal Lily at Manchester Royal Exchange, and Road at Oldham Coliseum.

The actress regularly shares glimpses into her life off screen with her husband and two children. Paula appears to live a quiet and wholesome life in the Yorkshire countryside, often sharing snippets of her daily walks with her beloved pet pooch and sweet moments with her nearest and dearest.

Earlier this year, Paula left Coronation Street fans shocked when one of her social media posts went viral. Paula looked completely different to her former character in the social media update - so much so, that some fans didn't even recognise her.

"Gorgeous day with my gorgeous mummy," she captioned the post, which included a carousel of photos from a visit to the luxury Titanic spa in Huddersfield. "R&R just what we both needed."

In the first photo, Paula could be seen taking a mirror selfie in what looks to be the pampering retreats changing rooms. In another, she was snuggled up in a robe while rocking sunglasses and toasting her beloved mother with a glass of bubbly.

It was the snap of Paula chilling by the pool, however, that truly showcased how different the theatre star now looks to Kylie. Wearing her sleek shades and a silk green bathing suit, the mum-of-two appeared to be a completely different person to the lap dancer she once portrayed on the popular ITV show.

The wholesome post was inundated with kind comments, many of which were complimenting the former soap star's new look. "Looking absolutely magnificent and amazing," one person wrote, while another said, "Always so super and utterly gorgeous Paula."

Paula's age-defying looks are also something which has baffled fans in recent years. The actress hasn't appeared to have aged at all since she left the soap over eight years ago - and recently, some Coronation Street fans couldn't quite believe Paula's shock real age.

As it turns out, Paula is actually 37 - despite the fact many would mistake her for being in her very early 30's. Paula married her love Tom in 2014 surrounded by their loved ones. Cheered on by her Corrie co-stars at the time, Paula looked stunning in her vintage white satin gown as she emerged in bright sunshine from Leeds Cathedral with new hubby Tom - who was her partner of 11 years before they eventually tied the knot.

Paula from Hebden Bridge, West Yorks, had been engaged to actor Tom since just before Christmas, 2011. The happily married couple have been dating since Paula was 17, after meeting at Huddersfield Tech.
